Default How much to have piston rings replaced?

How much does it cost to have your piston rings replaced? I got a 2000 civic dx which i think needs new piston rings. Is it hard to do yourself or just time consuming? let me know asap anyone because i need the car for school. thanks

I need my oil rings changed as well. I have heard of people dropping the oil pan, and pulling the head and doing it that way. Not sure how easy that is. I dont think there is a write up. I did find this shady DVD: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem If you mess it up, there is gonna be some problems. If you havent done it before have someone either help you who has, or have a mechanic do it. I would say anywhere from 1K-1600K for a mechanic. Whats wrong with the engine now??

Yea before you go through all the trouble make sure you need piston rings..unless you dog the heck outta your car i dont see a 5 yr honda needing them..

anyways here for our b18 it was $30 to replace the rings and $30 to hone the block. The shop said the block needed to be honed if they replaced the rings.. i dunno we havent gotten it done yet lol either way the block had to be out the car for them to do it

Compression is high but you can oil on a few of the sparkplugs. Yeah I bet it would be $30 if they just had the block.

I'm not sure if its that but my 3rd cylinder is low on compression and i was told the other were a lil low also. the exhaust is not dark or anything, it looks like the smoke is normal but my 3rd cylinder isnt working/missfiring. im pulling of the head tommarrow to find out, any thing to look for? i was thinking maybe the head gasket went? i was an idot and tryed putting larger injectors in and seeing if i would work without a AFC and i was running extremely rich, if anyone has any suggestions let me know. im working in a shop with all mopar people and they keep saying i should just forget tryint to fix a honda, so i need to prove them wrong. ( i am vtecing and putting a turbo in also to show them u can do tha on a 4cylinder, they got the idea its gonna just blow up my block.) THANKS FOR THE HELP SO FAR EVERYONE

Its also called a mini me swap, i drop a d16y8 head which is vtec and place it on a d16y7 block, you get about 21 hp i was told. Its really cheap compared to a complete swap.

You dont reall even hear VTEC engage. It burns oil now, look for another motor to rebuild and toss in.

do you know what could be the reason why i have a missfire in my 3rd cylinder? and do you know the compression each piston should have?

cylinders 1,2,4 have 90 and cylinder 3 has 60 (it say misfire only in cylinder 3 though) ... What do you think is wrong? I was guessing a head gasket, i tryed to put larger injectors in and i was running extremely rix and pulled them and put the stocks back in.

90psi? Holy ****. Pull the head and look at your gasket. IS there like a vaniila pudding substance in your valve cover? Sounds like you need either a new head gasket or new pistons/rings.

What lasts longer in a daily driver? OEM parts from Honda, or Wiseco or places like that fine?
