how do you take off damn tree sap?
i have a black car with a **** load of tree sap and i'm having a hard time taking it all off. i've tried 2 different kinds of bug & tar remover, and some turtle wax bug/tar/tree sap remover. they didn't work very good. i don't know where i got all the dam tree sap from, but i can't get it off.
i heard hot water will help and rubbing alcohol. i haven't tried those yet, but does anybody else have any other suggestions?
thanks,
93hb

Trust me here, as my parents have GIANT PINES (thank god I live on my own now!)
You will need: Gasoline, 2 rags and some good wax.
Put some gas on a rag, rup the sap, and then wax it up quickly.
Voila, and now damage to the paint!

Don't do what my mom did to my dad's 73 'vette and take the paint off down to the primer . She used a whole lotta bug and tar remover. Not much is needed and rub LIGHTLY. In autoshop we just used some boiling water and it a rag and pressed the rag on the sap. It worked well for the most part. STOP PARKING UNDER TREES

laquer thinner and then wax immediately. i used to work in a detail shop and we used that to get alot of crap off of cars. i have heard wd-40 works, but nothing has worked for me as good as laquer thinner. we used it to get tar off too.

don't know what kind of tree sap it is. i just know its hard to come off. i come some of it off with the turtle wax bug and tar remover, but i didn't get it all off. there's still some all over the car.
what about rubbing alcohol, would that be alright to put on my car? i'm going to also try some hot water with car wash soap tomorrow and see what happens.
i don't want to try nail polish remover either.
thanks,

Re: how do you take off damn tree sap? (93hb)
I work at a car dealership, and recently had to do this to a Jaguar, lots of tree sap all over it. First VERY carefully removed the thick spots with my fingernails and to clean up the smaller spots and all of the residue, we use gas line antifreeze. Sounds unorthodox, but it works. Not as harsh as some of the other products suggested, but it does the job very well. Cleans up all of the sap no problem, but slightly hazes the clear coat on spots where lots of rubbing was required. If the hazing does happen, a little bit of polish and wax cleans it up nice. HTH.
