How can I find out if I have a y8 head or z6 head?
So i bought a d16z6 motor from a guy yesterday who told me that it was a d16z6 motor. I looked at the block and it was stamped d16z6. He also told me it had a y8 IM on it. That was also true. He didn't say what the head was, just said that it was d16z6 motor. I also asked him how many parts are from different motors. He said they are all interchangeable. I know that most d series parts are. But i just wanted to make sure of what my problem is....a different head to a different block from different models! Do the heads have markings on them like the blocks do for honda motors? If so, what is the marking for a z6 and a y8 head? I tried installing my old distributor from my old z6, but wasn't matching up right. The spots where the bolts connect to the head don't match up. So i started thinking that maybe it was a y8 head and he just decided not to mention that. i also switched over the y8 IM for my z6 IM. So if any one is interested in picking that up, let me know. I am really frustrated because the wires on new distributor that i got with the motor don't match up to the wires on my engine harness. Any help would be appreciated. it's true, people will say anything to you for you to buy something. Good thing i know where this kid lives, because if he lied to me..... If it is a y8 head, what do i do about the wires for the distributor? i am missing a blue wire that runs off the main distributor wire to a separate plug with a black with yellow stripe. i can connect the black with yellow, but there is no blue to connect to go to the wiring harness. any help is great. Happy 4th.

id its a z6 head it shouold be stamped p08 on it on the back i believe and if its a y8 it will have like p2e or something but on the front it will also have a number stamped on it letting you know the year, mine has a 98 stamped on it

Y8 is stamped P2J IIRC, but if the distributor wont bolt up that's a dead give away.
A D15B7/D15B8 distributor will both bolt up the head and plug into your harness, no modification required.

So if i bolt up the d15b7 dizzy, and the motor was running fine previously in a different car with different dizzy, it should be fine? Awesome! thanks!
