Default HONDA CIVIC WONT START!! STARTER CLICKS. NEED HELP ASAP!!

I have a 99 civic ek sedan lx w/d16y5 vtec hx motor.
My car won't turn over all I hear is a click from the starter. Gauge cluster lights shut off too. I tried jumping starter to battery still won't start!!. Tried kick starting it still won't start!!. All grounds are tightened, battery tightened, fuses are all good, and fuel does kick in.

I did get another starter installed and same thing still but this time sounds like my relay(behind glovebox) clicks too with the newer starter. Then I put my old starter back in and no sound from the relay just the click from the starter.

Maybe low battery? Bad starter? I don't know? Need help ASAP need car for work. Please someone help.

My car use to be automatic, last owner converted it to 5spd. He installed an alarm with a start switch to turn the car on and off. So you don't need to turn the key to start just turn to on.

it's hard to help with Raped electrical but as a rule of thumb if you have power to the ecu. fuel and spark you should be able to push start the car if you cant you have other problems.

but make sure all your grounds are clean and tight.
most likely your solenoid is bad but it's part of the starter so get a new one.
if you like the push button good for you just leave it (I wouldn't) then fix it after reading this https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/how-my-auto-manual-swap-pics-56k-no-no-2090074/

if your loosing power in the cabin (ie Dash light dome light Blah blah blah) when your cranking or trying to crank the car your battery is toast get a new one.

if you have a volt meter hook it to the battery and watch it when you try to start the car if it falls below 11 volts the battery is crap get a New one should be at least 12.3v with all power off

Are you getting spark? You might want to check the ignition coil, it may have gone bad

How can you check for spark if its not turning over??? Ok first thing first... now you tried jumping the starter, ok but how? Did you or you should make sure the battery is fully charged... via trickle charge or engine crank charger... (very bad ***, step dad has one and it will crank an engine w/no power) Was it a brand new starter that you tried using...? when you loosen the nut from the starter it can break that connection inside if it was tightened to tight previously. Does the stud shift around or wiggle? You said it clicks which is the solenoid, so you have power to the starter but the connection inside might have snapped. I would get a new one if the other one was not and dont overtighten the nut...

I would look into that alarm too... ditch it!!! It might be putting a kill code on.

Ugh! Sry and if you get the starter tested have them do it several times... I had one that failed on the third test... so it had cold spots... I think thats it. Lol

sounds like the car alarm to me.

car alarm would stop you from jumping the starter, had the same issue a few years back, forced me to really remove the alarm stuff I had previously ignored.

i had an almost exact issue once couldn't boost it, jump it nothing, turned out being really badly corroded battery terminal/wire. i didn't see you mention checking those so thought id through it out there. just needed a good cleaning with a wire brush.

if you just cut out the alarm you did it wrong and wont get ANY power till you fix the wiring.

use this site to help you fix the wiring www.the12volt.com

Ok so it's 99 civic lx with d16y5 hx engine i don't know ifs it's obd2a or obd2b? I know 99-00 is obd2b. But not sure if the engine is.

Okay so the under hood fuse box has no alternator wire harness next to the battery to starter cable is that why it won't start? I'm pretty sure it's that but there wasn't one there when I had the alarm which I recently took out thinking it was the alarm that caused it. I had a switch that clicks up and down to start the car(if you try and turn the key it will not start and fuel won't kick in.) and what I did was when I started the car and drove for about 15mins I forgot to click the switch back down, and the car shut off on me while I was driving and had to kick start it while it was rolling still. It's kinda confusing trying to explain this lol but you guys get it?

It sounds like you burned part of your electrical out buy having the starter engaged for 15 minutes. I'm suprised you didn't hear the grinding of the starter gear against the ring gear on the fly wheel... did you burn out the starter solenoid (not the starter)? I would check that...

The starters is bad now. I got anew starter already but for some reason only one bolt fits (top starter bolt). And when I tried starting the car it felt like it wanted to start/turnover, but then to find out my battery was also bad, So then got a new battery fully charged and 100% working. Now not getting any power at all or fuel flowing. This was after I took the alarm/start switch out(start switch was wired to the starter for it to turn over I'm guessing that's why there was no alternator wire harness to the fuse box). Should I just hook the alarm back up?

car used to be an automatic. they probably did not integrate the neutral safety switch which is why there was a switch wired directly to the starter. the wires will be in the harness that used to go to the auto shifter under the center console. that should get you going.
