Default High beams work low beams do not

so when i have my high beams on they work just fine but if i switch to low beams my lights altogether turn off. but sometimes the low beams will stay on for a little bit and slowly get dimmer and dimmer untill it turns off

Bad wire and/or bad bulb.

Check the wires that run to the bulbs.
Also check the wiring on the headlight switch itself.

Then it's a bad wire, or connection.

If it was a bad fuse the bulbs wouldn't work at all.

It could be the plug which would mean it's the wiring like I said earlier, however, it is odd that the wiring is messed up on both sides.

It looks like I may stand corrected. I looked at a fuse diagram, it looks like there are fuses for both high and low beam. Can you please verify this and check to see if your low beam fuses are blown? They should be 10A fuses.

Sometimes fuses don't completely blow, they crack a little allowing the component to work.

You may have a bad combination switch on the steering column.
