HELP ME HONDA TECH!!!!!
O.K here's the deal, I was driving today and I heard a strange noise coming from under the hood, so I checked it out. The crank pulley was moving back and forth like crazy so I shut the engine off and checked the bolt. The thing was spinning by hand, so I tightened it up an cranked her up for a few seconds,shut it off, and checked again. This time when I went to see if the bolt was still loose, half the damn bolt fell off!!! Well I needed to get home so I continued driving and sure as ****, the pulley comes off and my belts self destruct (not the timing). So long story short, half the bolt is in my crankshaft still!!! I have no idea what could have caused it and if its repairable or not. This is my only vehicle and i'm in the military so this is totally inconvenient. I know that the torque on that bolt is ungodly so do you guys think I could take it to a shop and have them remove it??? Also does anyone have or know where I can get another one of these bolts (don't say junkyard, I live in Sticksville)??? Please help me out!!!

I had to get one at the junkyard when one came off on me. You could always go to majestichonda.com and order it, but it will take a bit. If this is like my Accord, I have a feeling the keystock broke. There is a keyway in there that a small piece of keystock goes in to keep the crank and pulley aligned. If this broke, hopefully it didn't whittle the keyway out. If it did, you gotta get a new crank. Sorry bro

The keystock is the metal piece that goes into the keyway.
The crank will have a notch, and the pulley will have a notch. These will match up and the keystock will go into this notch, or groove (keeps the pulley from spinning the bolt off. There are many reasons that this happens, but usually it is because the bolt wasn't seated correctly. If the groove is messed up on the crank, you need a new one. It will cost more to get it fixed and balanced, etc... than to get a new one and have it installed. If you are lucky, like I was, just the pully will be messed up (or nothing, but very unlikely).

Most likely easy outs will not work in this case so if you can't get enough gip on the remains of the bolt a shop would be your best bet. Make sure to charge that battery and don't use your directionals on the way. This isn't a bolt you will be able to find at a hardware store. Honda/Acura dealer or a junkyard are your only options, sorry to be the bearer of bad news..

if the head of bolt has come off then the torque is no longer there. broken piece thats still in there should be loose. you can get some bolt extractors from sears or auto parts store and get the broken piece out and just get a new crank pulley and bolt.

Won't the crank turn if I try to take the stud out? How could I keep it from spinning without the pulley installed??

Got that bitch out!!!! Took me 2 drill bits, an EZ out, and about 15 minutes. Came out pretty easy though. Now I have to wait for the new bolt I ordered and hope that the crank aint crossthreaded!!!
