timing issues
i recently replaced the cam gear timing belt water pump and tentioner pulley on my d51b7 did this the day after i replaced the head gasket intake gasket tb gasket and exhaust gasket. i triple check the timing to make sure it was correct at top dead center.
my issue now is its bogging out at low rpms and i dont hit my power band until 4300 rpms. i put on an adjustable cam gear now my question is should i advance or retard the timing to get my power band down to around 3k. it also idles extreamly low at like 5-600 rpm what do i need to do to get that up around 7-800

Re: timing issues
i started tinkering with it and figured it out about an hour ago. when i pulled the timing case off the timing was off but i tinkered with the cam gear and found that at 4 degrees advanced i had all the power back at least in the low end. im going to take it out on the highway later tonight and see how it runs in the top end.

Re: timing issues
um to race auto x you want your power band to hit at lower rpms concidering that most of your racing is going to be done in first and second gear very little third. having an adjustable cam gear on a sohc opens to opertunity to advance or retard your timing lowing or raising your power band. for intance my power band was hitting at around 4300 rpms with my timing set to top dead center. using the adjustable cam gear and advancing it 4 degrees my power band hits at around 2900 rpms. i would love to get it lower but i do daily drive this car and also i dont want to risk taping a valve against a piston, it would really upset me if i did so lmao. im going to do a full build write up on the car here soon with pics just want to get the body in a little better shape first. unfortunatly was rearended last friday so i have no rear bumper on atm.
excuse my spelling i cant spell for crap

Re: timing issues
and as for my last post about taking it out to the highway i went to a road that is barly traveled to test the top speed (yes i know not the best judgment on my part to test on a open road) but i did hit 139 topped. ill have to take it in to get dyno tuned but want to get the motor compleatly rebuilt and moded the way i want it first. so for now tunning is all on me. thank you guys for the advice if i run into more problems ill check here first.
