GSR Swap in a 98 DX EK Hatch.
The car is a 98 DX Civic Hatchback. It's going to be swapped with a GSR either obd2 or obd1 soon. Now, can I keep my stock harness that plugs out from the ECU through the firewall, or do I have to remove that and swap it out with an EX harness ? I remember doing a swap in a DX body OBD1 EG, and I didn't have to swap out the harness all I did was run the wires for the vtec and the knock sensor. now I heard GSR has the manifold where it uses a dual butterfly control as well, what kinds of adjustments need to be done to that. I heard people saying you need to run a couple of wires from the ECU towards that "targeted area", where there is a sensor located or whatever .. I have no idea... Should I also run a EX(p2p) vtec computer or a p72. Wouldn't it make more sense to run a p72 since you need it for the Dual Butterfly control ?

I think you would be better off gettin the GSR wire harness I know that the GSR engines are different then the B16's and B18C type R's and I know you can use the Type R wire harness on the B16 but you cant use the GSR because its different but I think you would be better off gettin the GSR harness that way it would be complete without riggin anything

I see.. as far as power difference. Is there anything different then when using the GSR harness compared to the DX/EX harness ? And what about the dual butterflies on the gsr manifold ? Do those need to be wired up to the p72 computer as well ?

Re: GSR Swap in a 98 DX EK Hatch.
Dont use a integra harness like stated above already^
use your stock civic harness its not hard to convert
go buy a solder gun and have fun, shrink wrap too
Dual butter flys were confusing so i never messed
with it, I had planned to change to a sk2, or edelbrok anyways
Now i use Skunk 2
P72 will work fine
as far as the harness conversion goes its a color match to the d-series
(except distributor) and you will need some plugs off the integra harness

Dx 96-98 engine harness is made for a non vtec sohc motor
Ex 96-98 engine harness is made for a vtec sohc or dohc motor
The gsr manifold is very simple, just run a wire straight to the ecu from the IAB sensor plug. You need a gsr or h22 ecu in order for the IAB from the gsr manifold to work. IAB aka "dual butterflies"

please dont post when you dont have a clue what your talking about..
Agreed
Gsr harness wont work period. It will only work on 92-95 civics because they are typically similar. A gsr harness is only useful if your using it for scrap parts like sensor plugs. JDM or USDM will do
