Goes into gear but won't catch

Goes into gear but won't catch
Driving my EG hatch home from work, had it in fifth gear going 80 and something happened and it wouldn't catch onto any gear. I don't even have to hold the clutch down and it slides right into each gear 1-5 but not reverse.
May be just shift linkage issue? Engine still runs fine. I'm new to the eg game so I need help.

Sounds like it's time for a new clutch, sure sounds like your clutch is engaged did this happen right after you shifted to a new gear or were you in gear and all the sudden you had this problem. If not that maybe your not really going into any gear possibly the dog collar responsible for switching gear.

No it doesn't register speed either. And I ill need to check the oil level on transmission. It doesn't engage at all when clutch is pressed. The thing is that it's completely loose and just slides into any gear.

OP = original poster, or original post, depending on context. In this case, yes, he's talking about you.
So you can shift through all of the gears as if your foot is on the clutch, regardless of if your foot is on the clutch or not? When the car is stationary, in any gear, and you give it gas, it doesn't lurch or try to move at all, and the speedometer doesn't register anything?
Assuming everything I just said is correct, inspect your clutch reservoir, master cylinder, slave cylinder, clutch arm (the metal bar that goes from the slave to inside the housing), and if those all check out, inspect your pressure plate and clutch disc. It sounds like either one of the above is broken and stuck in the "foot down" position, or in the case of your clutch, just straight up fucked.

The RPM still function, unsure if it's irrelevant. It won't budge at all. I'll look at everything you mentioned first thing in the morning bro. Hopefully it's an easy fix.

This may look 100 percent simple to you guys, to be quite hoest I'm not very engine savy. This will be my first attempt of many to fix her up so I appreciate everyone's input. I will keep you fellas posted.

Turns out it was the passenger axle that popped out somehow. Going to go ahead and replace both of them.
