i tried doing the re-learn method with the ecu..that just made my check engine light come on..hopefully when I do it again it goes off. Was thinking maybe an injector might be stuck open, thats why im burning up so much fuel? Also, i get a small puff of smoke out the exhaust when i punch the gas a bit..any suggestions?

With the diviing idle in neutral..not sure what to think of that. I was reading other posts and it said to do the re-learn method..but again..didn't do anything. i will continue to see what evolves of this diving idle.

Also, it is a bit jerky when i let off the gas when im driving. almost like its miss firing? I just swapped this motor in yesterday, so im still trying to figure things out. Thanks...oh yea, eg1

Check your timing? CELs?

If you've done any troubleshooting you need to post the back story so people aren't wasting time suggesting things you've already done.

sorry..Now that my check engine light is on..ive got the code for iacv. i had this on my last motor too and could not figure out what the problem was. I checked my TB gasket..replaced that...it was sucking in air. The exhaust manifold gasket is new. injectors came with the motor and the guy said the motor was pulled a week ago..so it would be tough to think that they would be bad. I don't know where i can go and get them checked. He also said the motor was running when he pulled it out. had no problems..obviously he could have been lying..but i doubt it. the ecu i got from a guy who drove it in his car the week before and had no problems. I haven't checked the timing and don't have a gun for it..best place to do that?

I was just thinking about what was happening and didn't think to tell the story about it..my bad.

so after all of that..i tried the re-learn method. and now my check engine light is on each time i start my car. but it wasn't before i tried the re-learn method.

Did you perform any sort of tune-up on the motor yet? You can check your timing, cap/rotor, vacuum leaks.

What's the code for the CEL?
What ECU are you running?

ecu is p28. CEL code is 14..IACV. ive been checking for vacuum leaks..i would like to actually test for it, but just haven't gotten around to it yet.

A vacuum leak won't cause a low idle, which is what appears to be the problem. Try cleaning the IACV.

Also do a tune up and set the ignition timing to spec.

clean your IACV first to fix your idle, its really easy to do, if that doesnt fix it, try cleaning the FITV, i cleaned my iacv twice and it did not fix my bouncing idle, but cleaning the fitv did fix my idle issue

that was what i was going to do next. I cleaned my iacv and fitv twice on my last motor and nothing changed..im hoping it will correct itself after I clean both on this motor.

Diving idle is a little better..the screw that sits underneath the butterfly (where the throttle cable knobby thing sits in) was really low..i tightened it up a bit so when i let off the gas in neutral..it doesn't spin back as far. could get better though.

I also switched out my injectors...haven't seen much of a difference..but havent taken the car out for a joy ride yet. so i will keep ya posted on that.

I also now have a loud whistle coming out of the IACV port in the TB...loud..put my finger over it and it helps, not sure where it is coming from though. ill keep diagnosing

Does battery voltage reach the Yel/Blk wire in the IACV connector?

okay..now my motor shuts off when I start it after it has been cold for a couple hours?! its revs really high..then after about 7 seconds it shuts off. i have to keep my foot on the gas to make sure it doesn't turn off. I don't even know where to start with this one! Im still getting bad gas mileage...around 20 or so. After what I changed, it still does this. Im lost for ideas. Why is it that people say the motors are perfect and no problems when there are always problems..its sad.

Could my ecu be bad? Im going to either buy another one or try to find someone I know what a p28 that I could use for a day.
