Factory B16A2 clutch. Do I really need to upgrade it?
I'm about a couple of weeks away from my BIG tranny project. I need to cut some corners somewhere and I was wondering if the clutch would be the place? I have a 99 B16A2 with cams and bolt ons. I don't really drag race, just steet driving, autocross, and HPDE.
This is what I want to get
ATS 4.929 FD
Quaife LSD
Toda Flywheel
clutch?
This is going to cost some $$$ and I need to cut a corner somewhere. I can get a factory replacement clutch for about $150. What do you think?

Well a shop in New York (recommended to me by Yasu of ATS and Larry Jr. of IAS) may be doing the install. When I talked to them they mentioned they use factory ITR clutchs on most of their race trannys. He had tried many aftermarket units and they either failed or caused damage to the transmission. So I guess its better to wear out a clutch then the trans.

Would'nt the ITR clutch "technically" be an upgrade... And as you said. "I would rather blow the clutch, then the tranny".

if your going go with such a nice set-up why short change yourself with the clutch
check couches for random spare change

If you are already putting all that time and effert into the tranny put a little extra and put the a good quality clutch. If you use a stock and one month later it is slipping and you need to change it you will be pissed.
If you are going to do it do it right!

Well its held up for 50,000 miles so I doubt it will go in a month. Remember, its a B16, I have no tq.

ITR clutch if you're trying to save some $$$; the lighter flywheel will be a big help.
The stock B16A2 flywheel weighs 17.9lbs...my Cusco/OS flywheel weighs 8.75lbs, now the car feels so much more responsive
You might want to check with Leo @ JDMSpecPerformance (ITRinEJ1) about Toda flywheels.

The itr clutch would be a o.k. upgrade , but the si clutch should be good for 200-250 hp. So you will be fine with the stock clutch aswell. It's just kind of squishy compared to better clutches.
