Yeah I think it was worth it. It was the first "real" modification I had done to my car, and I learned a lot about taking a motor apart (somewhat). The performance gain is noticeable, and the engine really feels powerful at the higher RPM's. And $555 for 25 HP AND a 150,000 mile checkup? Can't beat that!

Where you running the z6 tranny as well? Just curious, because that would definitely be a factor.

ever find out which timing belt to use? im also about to do the mini me on my D15B2 should be about the same as yours except for the new dist and o2. ill be able to experiment with an old A6 belt also to see if that fits better, but id like to know which belt to get from honda so i dont end up having spare timing belts for every honda i could ever own

i'd be extremely happy with that...however, i don't think i'll be able to run that because my car doesnt feel like a 15.7 car and my car weighs 2319 lbs

i'm going to go with the Z6 belt...the VX is 103 teeth whereas the Z6 is 104 teeth...the extra tooth should make the belt the right length...i will be able to verify this soon

Re: D15 SOHC VTEC Mini-Me : Massive Write-Up (BauleyCivic)
how very surprising! i have a 1993 milano red civic dx sedan and have been planning a mini me swap exactly like the one here! is the water pump change that you did normal? or just for the 150000 mile check up? also, how (if possible) can i get ahold of one of those VTEC harnesses? thanks!

Re: D15 SOHC VTEC Mini-Me : Massive Write-Up (jazzyfoo)
I did a mini-me conversion for a friend'd '99 DX, worked like a charm. Only bug we ran into were #1- the head had to me removed to be redecked, looks like it was never flat to begin with, and #2- had a CEL for the knock sensor for a while, wasn't wired properly.
The single biggest upgrade you can do for your non-VTEC D-series, is an EX/Si tranny, the head is nice if you've got a D15, but for Y7's personally I think a Zex cam and an EX tranny is not only easier but will yeild the same results.

Updated 7/19/03
Finally finished the mini-me and updated the write-up...
(Copied from Pg. 1)
6. UPDATE 7/19/03
Last week I went to the Honda dealership and returned the plug wires for the right ones. It turns out that they gave me the plug wires for a D15B7 instead of a D16Z6. on them. The new plug wires were a perfect fit, so the moral of the story is B7 plug wires and Z6 plug wires are COMPLETELY different. This morning Sander and I put on the correct timing belt (D16Z6) and changed the MTF. The Z6 timing belt was a PERFECT fit and was not impossible to shove on like the VX one was. So, to all you people who say VX timing belt for 1.5L mini-me’s…EAT ****. The car has been running well, and the whining went away for the most part when we put the timing belt on. It still whines a bit, but Sander and I believe it is the timing belt tensioner getting old, so that is something that I will keep an eye on.
As far as performance goes, I have looked at several dyno charts and have seen that D16Z6’s naturally lose a good deal of power from 6,500 RPM to 7,200 RPM. Shifting at 6,800-6,900 RPM makes the car feel a lot faster. When I rev it all of the way to 7,200 RPM the car doesn’t feel as fast because it takes a LONG while to wind to redline. 2nd and 3rd gears pull surprisingly well! I didn’t think there would be much of a difference on the highway since I didn’t change the transmission or modify the bottom end, but the difference in performance between the mini-me and D15B7 is the greatest in 3rd gear, at least to me.

You can probably find yourself a tranny for around $200-$300 at most. I bought an EX tranny a while back for $200. Recently my friend sold one to someone for $150. They aren't too expensive, just gotta look around. You will probably have a harder time finding a Z6/Y8 head than you will finding an EX/Si tranny...
