exhaust for a 98 civic ex
I have a 98 honda civic ex with a 1.6 liter sohc vtec.............. if i want to put a dual exhaust on it what are the pros and cons and what kind of horse power gaines am i lookin at?

You will lose horsepower. Get a single 2.25" exhaust. Stock Civic EX motors (d-series) do not develop enough exhaust gases to need dual exhaust pipes. Running a single exhaust pipe will make the car torquier and more responsive on the low end.

Thanks, any recommendations on a single exhaust system? any price range......... if i do it im gonna do it right. i already have an aftermarket 4-2-1 header and i had a catclytic converter put on it and it did make a difference. any advice would be helpful.

Depends...do you feel like being loud as hell? A popular choice among HT members is the Apex'i WS because it is quiet and very torquey in the midrange. Any 2.25" or 60mm mandrel bent exhaust w/ straight-through muffler (eg magnaflow, apex'i N1) would be the best as far as power gains are concerned.

No..... i dont like that loud *** weed eater sound. I want a nice mellow...... deep tone. Is the Apexi N1 somethin that has to be ordered off the internet or would a local muffler shop have it?

yea like what they said you will never need a dual exhaust on that car. That would just cause you to lose power and people would make fun of you.

Get a Rs-R catback system if you can afford it. OR go with an ES oval muffler and cutsom 2.25" piping.

If you don't want a "loud *** weed eater sound," then an N1 exhaust is not for you.

how much am i lookin at spending on the Rs-r catback? Im not worried about price....... if i do it i want it done right and that usually means more money.

yea the rs*r ex-mag exhaust is a very nice looking exhaust. The black piping is super stealthy . The only problem is that you won't be making the most power with this exhaust because it doesn't have a straight through muffler like n1 type exhausts or others with straight through designs.

Well any straight through design muffler should make good power compared to a non straight thru muffler design. The only drawback is that it will be much louder than a non straight through design. Oh and btw you aren't a trial user anymore.

greddy power exteme... i had it on my 98 ex, not raspy at all, and always deep and mellow. but that also went along with a DC ceramic 4-1 header..

Well when i go mine it was for a EK, not sure of the code for a 98
I have a 2000 1.6EL from Canada with a d16y8 and it bolted right up.
Someone can steer you in the right direction. I am not to good with the US models.

same engine setup it sounds like............ i have the 1.6 liter SOHC VTEC............ i might go to the local customizing shop and see if they know if it will fit

i really can't find a nice performance bolt on exhaust for my 98 ex............. myb im not lookin in the right places......... any suggestions?
