Default Possible bad Clutch Master Cylinder on EM1..??

So the other day while driving, my car was semi hesitant to go into 5th gear and felt like it was still grabbing a little when I took it out of 5th gear.. The thing is, it wasn't every single time.. Sometimes if I matched my rev's with my shift's it would go fine, but than other times it would hesitate to go in, or I'd have to go into 4th than 5th... Well I just looked in the clutch pedal area at the Master Cylinder and it had a bit of dark brown goop on the push rod as it enters the Master Cylinder, and normally I'd be like "ok, my m/c is shot" but I don't leak clutch fluid or ever have to top off my reservoir..?? I assume my m/c is in fact going bad and I should replace it anyways since I seen that little bit of brown goop, but I figured my m/c would be needing to be refilled if it was indeed leaking... Thanks..

How does the pedal feel? Spongy? Loose?

It's just acting bad in 5th? Check the fluid in the trans, see if there's still any in it.

Thanks for the reply Ron, and the pedal feels normal, its not specifically hard/soft, doesn't stick, etc.. I'll post a pic of the current master cylinder leakage for a better view of my situation..

It had the slightest hesitation once or twice going into 4th as well, but yeah it was mainly just 5th and the issue just started yesterday out of no where.. I'll double check the fluid but I just changed it out about 2-3 months ago when I replaced and axle... Thanks for ur input as well..!

Ok guys so I was about 1qt low on tranny fluid, I replaced it with Synchromesh which is what I always use and now she shifts like butter again..!! I just replaced my axle seals about 3 months ago so for it to be 1qt low is kinda weird, but I'll just keep a better eye on it from now on..

Now onto the master cylinder.. Should I go back to grampas ole' advice, "if it's not broke don't fix it", or does this look like it needs to be replaced asap..?? Again my clutch pedal feels fine, but visually inspection shows a different story I assume..??

I attached 2 pics, one with flash and one without flash..

Thanks..

I've seen them slobber like that for years before they actually cause any problems. You can leave it as is, and it may last a long time before it fails or it may fail at some inopportune time.

Yeah that's kind of what I figured.. I suppose I'll return the m/c and slave cyl's I bought from AutoZone for now at least, put $40 back in my pocket lol.. I'm gonna wipe it off from down there and keep a closer eye on my clutch fluid to better track what's going on.. Thanks again..
