engine shuts off while driving??
I have a 99 Civic with GSR swap. While I was doing 40mph, the car engine would shut off, then I have to wait approximately 10 minutes to start it back up. Any ideas? Clutch or fuel pump? THanks

electrical part of the igntion switch?
if it's heat related, as in when it warms up it shuts down, then cools down and it starts then shuts off when it's warm again...maybe ignitor in your dizzy?

When the engine shuts off, are the dash warning lights on or off?
When you try to restart the engine, does it fail to crank or does it crank and not start? If the engine cranks but won't start, listen for whether the fuel pump primes and check whether there is spark at the plugs.
Is the CEL on?

main relay? If it seems like it's going to start, it's probably getting "some" fuel. Thing is, I've NEVER had the main relay stop working while the car is actually running. (it always happens when the car is off, and then tried to be started)
As for the ICM in the distributor, I've NEVER had one go bad, and then sometimes work either. They always go bad, and then thats it.
How about this, does the fuel pump "prime" when you turn the key to ON? Can you hear the fuel pump engage? If nothing else, that will determine a faulty main relay. Then you can go from there.

Re: engine shuts off while driving??
I'm pretty sure it's your ignition switch. Same thing with my Mom's 99 Civic. The switch is the only recall item for that year, and once replaced at the dealer, my Mom's car worked fine. Below is copied directly from the recall bulletin. Since it's a recall I'm pretty sure it won't matter that you swapped the engine or that the car is out of warranty.
Safety Recall: Ignition Switch
(Supersedes 02-031, dated September 17, 2002)
BACKGROUND
Electrical contacts in the ignition switch can wear
prematurely due to high electrical current passing
through the switch. Worn out ignition contacts could
cause the engine to stall without warning. Although the
engine will restart in most cases, a vehicle that stalls
while driving increases the risk of a crash.
VEHICLES AFFECTED
• 1997 Accord (L4)
• 1998–99 Accord (L4 and V6)
• 1998–00 Civic
• 1997–99 CR-V
• 1997–00 Odyssey
• 1997–99 Prelude
Not every vehicle in the years and models listed
above is affected by this campaign. Before
beginning work, verify that the vehicle is eligible by
checking at least one of the following.
• The customer has a notification letter.
• The vehicle is shown on your campaign
responsibility report.
• The vehicle is shown as eligible on a DCS or iN
(Interactive Network) VIN Status Inquiry.
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
All owners of affected vehicles will be sent a
notification of this campaign. An example of the
customer notification is at the end of this service
bulletin.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the electrical (ignition) switch.
NOTE: Reinstalling aftermarket parts (security
systems, alarms, audio systems, etc.) connected to the
ignition wiring is not covered under this campaign. If a
customer wants a non-Honda part reinstalled, the shop
that installed the part (or the customer) must do the
work and assume liability. In addition, the customer is
responsible for all costs associated with the non-Honda
part and its installation. If you have any questions
about this, please contact your District Service Manager.

Re: engine shuts off while driving??
I have a fuel pressure gauge, I noticed that when I shut off, the pressure remains 45-60, but it will lower to 0 after 15 minutes. The engine wont start up after I shut it off, but will start some time later. So the issue here is fuel is flooding my engine

Re: engine shuts off while driving??
Pull ur coil out of the dizzy and take it to AutoZone or advance. They can test the resistance on it. Sounds like a coil to me. Easy fix, try it and lmk!!!
Good luck!

Re: engine shuts off while driving??
i just fixed this problem in my EM1... if it bogs before in turns off... then it will be the IGN module in the dizzy... Listen to RonJ@ht he knows what he is talking about.... if you dont have a spark then it is most def your Ignition module in the distributer... its about $80.74 at Advance Auto Parts... lol! just switched mine... turns on like a beuty now!

Re: engine shuts off while driving??
I have the same exact problem. I have changed the distributor as well, main relay, ignition switch, and still having the problem. If anyone out there has any other ideas, it would be greatly appreciated
