Take it and get it soda blasted, that's about the only way with things together. U can use a good degreaser or some simple green but nether of those r going to get it super clean.

Usually a good degreaser and elbow grease does it. I've heard of people sealing everything up real well and having it bead blasted, or use a pressure washer(just water). I'm always afraid of stuff getting in somewhere so I just use a degreaser like purple power or simple green.

You'd be surprised. I haven't used simple green before but purple power worked wonders, cleaned my head/block/tranny with it. A good brush will help too. Spent maybe 6 hours total on all of it. Just do one section a day so you don't get tired of cleaning as fast.

Get some etching wheel cleaner. No idea where you'd find it. I haven't been able to find it at parts stores in years.
Here you go, this is what you're looking for.

take it to a machine shop or engine shop, they can put it in their parts washer and itll come out spotless. i would recommend having all the oil galleys cleaned at the same time

I wouldn't use a steel brush as it would probably score the aluminum. I'd find the stiffest non-metal brush you can.
The one here would make you take everything apart before they cleaned it. I don't think he wants to do that. But you could always call your local machine shop and ask.

But take my word for it, it's by far the best stuff for how little of an *** pain you'll go through to clean your engine.

Re: Engine Head and Block Cleaning?
Well soda blasting is the same as bead blasting, they just use bakingsoda instead of glass bead. Because soda won't hurt anything or scratch the metal if it is lodged in places when it is put back together.
