Eg steering rack play
When you jack up the front and push/pull the front and back of the tire there is about an inch or two of play. All other suspension stuff, like tie rod ends and ball joints/wheel bearings are new, including the inner tie rod ends. You can see the play is at the rack.
this shows itself under braking as a shimmy (wheel/tires are balanced and rest of suspension is rebuilt).
So, I went to advanced auto for a rebuild kit for the rack and it is a no go.
I guess there are bushings inside the rack that need to be replaced?
Where do I get these? Hopefully my only option is NOT the stealership....

Re: Eg steering rack play
Have you tried tightening up the rack guide? I'm not 100% if your rack has this adjustment, but my EK does and after replacing all my tie rods, my car drove like sh*t. It felt like the car was floating and loose as hell. I tightened up the rack with the adjustment screw under the car, and it is so much better now. I would look into that first. It's free and easy to check.

I'd be really interested in this.

No, there is a clunk sound when going over bumps that I forgot to mention.
I'm pretty sure it is the rack bushings. I have over 200K miles on the car.

Re: Eg steering rack play
saw those.
I think those are the isolator bushings for the OUTSIDE of the rack.
My problem is inside the rack.

You loosen #15 and tighten #4 until it is tight. Then you back it off a quarter turn and then tighten #15 back down. It is worth a try and will almost certainly remove some slop out of your steering. Mine has over 200k on it too and although it's not perfect, it is a lot better than it was.
