Default 99 Civic - sputters, makes scratching and then rumbling noise, and dies

hey all and thanks for reading,

ok so i have a civic 1999 and im having issues with it. I know it probably be easier to run a diagnostic but Im currently in a position where that is not possible.

Here is the problem... when i try to turn the engine on...it does one sputter and then kind of a scratching sound until it rumbles a bit and then dies.

Here's what i have done, changed the spark plugs, put in a new battery, new fuel filter, new fuel pump, new main relay. Everything else is in check, no overheating, everything fires, all oil is decent, no leaks and basically intact.

Any suggestions would be of help. Thank you in advance

how many miles on it. how long have you owned it. has it been acting up at all before this event has occured? any new mods? did u check to make sure all sensors are plugged in? give us as much info as possible to beable to help you cause right now it could be alot of things. But i would check to see if your map sensor is plugged in and not bad

103k miles, its not mine, it was running but would turn off randomly when the engine was cool and i would have to keep it in neutral to rev it up a bit so that it wouldnt turn off on me, then when i switched the battery it stopped turning on completely...it would just sputter and then die, no mods, the sensors are in place...

sorry for the run on

Check and clean the IACV and Throttle body. Adjust your idle screw if that does not fix it

sounds like it could be a map sensor issue, although you say you have no CEL's, its possible to not have any with a MAP issue. Can you make a video of you trying to start the car? And are you sure you have fuel and proper spark?
