damn from the dead. Don't know the answer but i do have a question, i read part of it. but if you have a filter on instead of a oil catch can is it the same thing. PLease explain </TD></TR></TABLE>
actually i was wondering that too haha i saw some filters that looked like they'd belong in a catch can today when i was browsing autozone (actually debating whether or not to buy a breather filter) and i saw those in the back and i was thinking about it... the autozone here doesn't have much of a selection either = / haha.

thread is old but since it's bumped ohh well... Anyway I dont understand the reason to even do this. Someone help please... Do the gases HAVE to flow back to the engine oil-less? Can you not just unplug the pcv valve and plug/close the intake vacuum line and also just install a breather filter on the valve cover? And if sliding out the pcv valve is going to make a mess, why not stick a hose in the pcv valve hole and run it all the way down to the bottom of the engine and just let it drip out any **** it wants? Honestly I'm trying to learnnn.. and I will def do this DIY if I can be told WHY it has to be done this way... taking off my intake mani and looking at the ports.. BLACK BROWN **** all over it!!! 15 years worth! Not anymore though.

Im in for pics of the dirty grimy interior of your catch can sir....
I though D series at least had a stock catch can if not what is the black canister right below the intake manifold that has hoses going to it?

Re: DIY - How To build your own Oil Catch Can
correct me if im wrong but i had a turbo car and it had a catch can. it was used because under boost the pcv valve closes to keep pressure from getting into the crank case. this makes the need for a way to vent the crank case. mine was connected from a port on the valve cover that when to the can and the other side was connected to the intake before the throttle body to make a negitive pressure in the crank case. then the can had a line that would allow the oil that was collected to be drained back to the oil pan its not that is dirty oil its that the air comming from the crank case has oil in it and its just a way to vent the crank case under pressure and not get oil everywhere.
personally i like the idea even for n/a but if i put one on i would have a way to get the oil back to the oil pan. good DIY thanks for taking the time to show us what worked for you
