Default Difference from a 1992 Civic Dx,Cx, and Vx?

So i am looking at a seller who is selling their 1992 Honda Civic Hatchback. The problem is that they do not know what type it is. Dx,Cx, or Vx. What is the difference between them? Would like to know a little about the different trims. Thanks

have them check the title if they have one. it should say it on there. mine does. as far as i know the only difference between the cx and dx hatches are that the cx came on steelies off the lot and the dx had hubs. the vx im not sure about

Stock all three came with different motors, vx having the d15z1 with vtec-e and 16 valves, dx having another 1.5 with 16 valves but no vtec and the cx having the 1.5 with 8 valves. Vx's came stock with a tach with a 6000 rpm redline. Vx and cx both could only be had with manual transmissions and both had 10 gallon fuel tanks, where as all other civics had ~12. Neither came with sway bars either, front or rear, nor power steering(or power anything really). I also don't think they came with hardly any sound deadening, if any at all where the dx did. Quickest way to know will be the engines if it has the stock one.

if it has no side moldings or holes for them then it is a vx or cx

if it has side moldings its a dx

This is probably a very stupid question, but were any 92 Si (CDM) cars availale in the states? Could you purchase a 92 Si (CDM) without drivers side SRS in the US?

I know there were 92 Si hatches made in Canada and sold here (I have one) but I need to know if you could purchase a 92 Si without an airbag.

Thanks

^^ Nope. US regs at the time required a passive restraint system. 1990/91 models had that gawdy moving seatbelt, while the 1992+ redesign all had airbags. CDM regs were different - we didn't see airbags in all trims of Civic until 1996. But, all of the upper trim line Civics had at least driver's airbags by 1995.

The 92 Si steering wheel without airbag looks like this (this is my vehicle):

Note that it's a standard 4-prong wheel with an "airbag delete" piece (for lack of a better term) in the centre. (Leather grip is an optional part - never mind that.)

But - if you're in Pontiac, MI - you're just a stone's throw from the border - why don't you look for one here?

Thanks for the info. I'm asking because I autocross in ST class and I'm trying to find a loophole so I can use an aftermarket steering wheel. All the EF Civics can change out the stock steering wheel and use an aftermarket smaller wheel, but any car with an integrated airbag cannot be changed.

If I could have purchased a 92 Si without an airbag I could change out the wheel and technicly take out the whole SRS system.

There is also another angle I can use and that's the CDM exception:

"A Canadian-market vehicle is eligible for Stock category if it is identical to the US-market
counterpart except for comfort and convenience modifications as allowed
per 13.2.A."

That's if I can categorize the SRS system under "comfort and convenience." I don't see that being a problem since Airbags at that time were an option and not a safety standard.

^^ Well, there's a grey one from a 92 4-door that will work, at the local wrecker's. Black ones are notoriously hard to find. You don't need the whole wheel, just specific trim bits. PM me for more info.

Hi guys newbie here. Am also looking for some info about this 1993 hatch, here are a couple of images

- seller from Phillipines says its Hatchback Sr3. I'm kind of confused on the naming conventions and not sure about this car I'm about to buy. EG, EG6,EG9? CX, DX, VX, Si or Sr3??? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

"Tach: Si (7200 redline), VX (6000 redline); none in DX or CX (these received large temp (left) and fuel (right) gauges on either side of the speedo)"

Is this also true with 1996-2000 models?

Don't be so sure. If it's an overseas model then they had different naming conventions than North America. A photo of the interior and engine bay would help, as would knowing the first part of the VIN.

"SR3" is not a trim level anywhere, though. Seller is mistaken.

No. USDM 96-00 CX didn't have a tach. CDM did, though.

Well apparently that diffuser is worth .2 in the 1/4 in back to back testing...
