Knock sensor
Hope everyone is well, I recently purchased a b16a from hmo I got two computers p28 and p30. I put the motor on a 92 si eg . I’m currently running a p30 the check engine light when on to a knock sensor code 23 I. Ought the original and torqued it to specs and it turns off but after about 2-3 miles the check engine light turns on again. I turn off and turn it back on and this time less then 1 mile the light turns back on . Any idea on what it might be . Thank you

Re: Tell Us What You Did To Your EG/EK/Del Sol Today
Do you have a knock sensor installed? Are you using a B16A harness, or your stock D16Z harness?
edit - I see you started a thread for your issue. We can continue there.

Re: Knock sensor
Yeah unfortunately I had to use the old harness because the other was set for right hand drive. However , I just changed my ecu from a p30 (the one I was running ) to a p28 and the check engine light has not come on.

Re: Knock sensor
the CEL for the knock sensor will not come on with the P28 since it's not looking for it. Using the P30 and if you get CEL for knock chances are you either got a bum knock sensor or there is an issue with the wire going from knock sensor to ecu (should be shielded) or the P30 ecu has an internal issue. I went to the junkyard and got the wire to the knock sensor from a crv- (shielded) and just wired to the ecu and grounded the shield casing to the chasis

Re: Knock sensor
Well just going by what others have said the P28 will cause it to run lean so IMO if running lean chances are better that you pass smog versus running rich. I know that some states like cali there are other checks I believe. Here in texas smog tests are just emissions and they check to see if CEL is on. You can always get the P28 to run your b16 by chipping it. Only one I have used is from ebay seller to get ecu chipped you mail it in they mail-"Advanced Ignition" is seller name but their price is now 99 bux it was 70 when I used it.Does the wire have metallic shielding around the wire-It's like a mesh the wire will look thicker in comparison to other wires. It's good that you have volts to it- try to use a known good knock sensor see if it changes.

Re: Knock sensor
Thank you I will have to check it out , yeah I’m from Cali so mostly they will have more rules. Just curious if I can’t get away with it just for the test .

Re: Knock sensor
Cali, I think yer going to have to get the P30 operating correctly.

Re: Knock sensor
I believe the next step would be seeing if maybe taking it to a tune to make it operate with pcm or if I will just go to a junk yard and location the wiring harness. Thank you everyone

Re: Knock sensor
Bad news. You can’t smog a Jdm swap in California right now.
I’m going through the referee process right now. One of the first things he asked was to clarify that the engine is usdm.

Re: Knock sensor
Did you purchase a Honda knock sensor? Honda ecus are incredibly finicky. I could not clear the PO325 code on my B16 p2t with an aftermarket sensor; I had to buy the Honda part. I verified the aftermarket sensor was working. I even tried a shielded wire.

Re: Knock sensor
The reason I’m running the old harness 92 si harness is because the other harness was right hand drive and the wiring was back wards (I’m new to the game and was told the old one should be fine ?? How do I fix the issue if I want to run the p30

Re: Knock sensor
Get a connector, run a wire and plug in your knock sensor.
or
replace your harness with one that has a knock sensor wire
or
reprogram your P30 using method of your choice and disable the knock sensor
