Date of manufacture?

Date of manufacture?
Good day all. I'm old(46) and just bought my 16 year old son a 96 EX coupe. It is suppose to have a newer engine. The number on it (the block) is d16y8 1564781. Can anybody tell me the date of manufacture of this engine? The engine also has a set of DC sports headers 4-2-1. Any other info would be nice. I' new to the import performance side of things. Thanks, Brad

Re: Date of manufacture?
Possibly, also, if your willing to crawl underneath the car. On the intake side of the block, lower left right above the oil pan is the VIN number of the engine. Should be the same as the car if its the original motor. Its tricky to find especially if the engine is dirty. Its a green tag.
If it is different than the chassis VIN, you cna go to this website to check the info from the VIN.

There are others that may be able to give more info, but that one came in handy when I bought my swap motor.

(cajuncountry) the 4-2-1 is just a comperssion ratio that the engine is putting out. nothing to be wondered or researched there!!!
the engine will tell you alot about the car and the maintaince and how the whole car has been kept up and if it has been wreaked or not!!!!
now the D16Y8-1564781 this is just the model number stamped from the factory the best way to find out what year your engine is is by
1./ what is the year of the car and then look at the mileage.
2.then subtract the milage from the year and you should get the actual number in 2 digit form of the last 2 of the year.
3./ if the engine is the wrong size, type,(example a 2.0,not a 1.6) well then look at the milage on the engine in your car and do the steps in the beginning of this numbered example shown here.(take year of car subtract the mileage and you should get the last 2 digits of the year.

Re: Date of manufacture?
Check the VIN on the block or trans. The vin on the block should be on the exhaust side right above the oil and the 10th digit is the production year. The number on the head will work but the head could have been cast a few years before it was used so always better to go by VIN.
