Icon2 D16z6, dies on hot starts!?

I have a '94 Honda Del Sol with the D16z6. It's been a great car. Everything is in just as good a shape as ever, with the exception of the problem I'm currently having. For some reason, cold starts start-up everytime, but hot starts (after I've drove it for about twenty minutes, plus), the car instantly dies. I have to wait roughly 1-5 minutes before the car will start again. The distributor has been replaced twice before, but can anyone please help me out?

Much appreciated,

Naiyasin.

The ICM is definately a possibility but it would likely show problems whenever the motor is hot, not just when starting. Try testing it first. You might also try pulling the air filter off or ajar when it won't start to see if that's the problem. Make sure there's no debris that might get sucked into the intake. If it starts, turn the motor off immediately and reinstall the filter. Make sure the fuel filter is good also.

Very useful. I'll give it a go. Would a ICM throw an engine light, btw? Wasn't sure if this was related or not, but I'm experiencing terrible misfires. Could that be related to my starting problem? Thanks much.

Adding misfiring opens up alot of possible causes. Check the valve cover, thermostat and battery ground wires. Test your ignition at all four wires. Either get a spark tester or:

Disable the injectors and get a new or known good spark plug. Wear gloves (welding gloves work great), preferably with latex or nitrile gloves underneath, and remove a spark plug wire from its plug. Connect the good plug to the end of the wire and hold the plastic deep-well tube at the very tip of the wire end with the threads of the plug touching bare metal on the valve cover. Have an assistant crank the motor while you watch the spark, carefully keeping all body parts away from the plug, motor and car body. Different types of plugs have different colored sparks but usually a good spark is a thick, strong flow of bright pink or is at least bright. Little blue or pink "lightning bolts" indicate a weak ignition. Check all four wires. This will test your entire ignition.

Once you perform these tests, post the results here. Include in that post post all the info you have about all of your engine problems, any times it misfires more or less, how exactly it sounds when it won't start or misfires, and any check engine lights you have had since the problems started. You should also check the spark plugs, compare them to a plug wear chart and post their condition with the other info. Good luck.
