Y8 has a better intake manifold, but supposedly the Z6 head flows better... Personally, I went with a Z6 because it's less money (converting to OBD1 if you're boosting or whatever). Don't let anyone tell you anything about the oil pumps. If you take one apart, you notice that all the parts are the exact same. In fact, the only difference is that the lines to/from it are bigger. So theoretically, the Y8 oil pump should be better.

My vote: Z6, and if you can, pick up a Y8 manifold.

So that's that... Really not sure what kind of information you're looking for.

There's no difference..like pple siad, the mani is a bit diff, so is the head, it "flows better" - but both of these are differences that you won't notice either way.

Personally I would go with a Z6 for 3 main reasons.
1. Everybody says the head flows better, so the more the merrier I say...

2. They're generally older, which can sometimes mean more miles, but usually mean scheaper

3. ODB-I - no knock sensor, none of that extra bullshit that ODB-II added, you can bring it into a garage and get it inspected with the CEL on !! -- None of that extra computer crap...knock sensor is **** to me b/c by the time it's "knocking" (preignition or something worse) you should have already noticed something (whether it be a piston rod sticking out of your block or a weaker pull).

As far as buying a Z6 and putting a Y8 mani on it, you won't notice any difference because the manis are so damn close. If it could be a controlled experiment (which it can't due to the fact that no two cars act the same) and you randomly swapped Y8 engines and Z6 engines (same everything) into 100 cars you wouldn't be able to pick out which had the Z6's and which had the Y8's.

The Y8 mani is worthless unless you have it already, you won't feel more HP, a short ram air intake will give you more hp... And as for the 128hp of the Y8 opposed to the 125hp of the Z6, that's at the flywheel, at the wheels you're still looking at 90 (approximated)hp (90bhp) - and that differs from car to car. So the 3 hp difference at the flywheel won't have any effect at the wheels...what? ya gonna argue over a dynoed 1/8th of a bhp gain? :-P

I also go with the Z6.

Also, since the head supposedly flows better, definately better for boosting. Less sensor crap too, ODB-II is worse than ODB-I in my opinion because it's a pain in the ***.

Either way, they're basically exactly the same motor. I'd just start looking for a Z6 but if you have to take a Y8 so be it (just more sensors, CEL lights, and failed inspections to deal with). Like I said, difference is null, though I'd go with the Z6.

Right. What he said. I've seen a few test results where the Z6 still outflowed... Even with a port/polish on both, the Z6 still won.

Regardless... Get what's available, but if you have a choice, I'd go Z6.

the Z6 head flows better for boost. For NA the Y8 promotes better characteristics. It also has a better quench area, also yeliding a smidge more compression and more detonation resistance.
Otherwise, same **** really.
