D15B7 - Swap in Z6 or Y8?
I have a 95 del sol S D15B7 automatic, stock.
I'm thinking about a Z6 or Y8 swap. Which engine will go in easiest? Which engine is better and why? How will these motors bolt up and work with my current B7 transmission.
I noticed in a 98 EX I was looking at the Y8 has different mounts than my car currently has. Will this make the swap more difficult? Should I go with a Z6 for this reason?
I've heard the Y series motors have oiling problems. Is this a reason to avoid a Y8?
What am I going to have to do ECU-wise for either of these swaps? I want to stay with an auto trans. Will the ECU for the Z6 or Y8 work with well my existing B7 transmission?
Thanks.

d16z6 is what i would drop in, keep it obd1. (well b-series IMO but thats off topic) It's a direct drop in and will bolt up to your trans with no problem(same with y8) and the only thing you will have to wire up is the vtec. Then just pick up a p28 ecu and done deal. your old exhaust and intake manifold will bolt up as well but would rather use the z6/y8 (y8 has a better intake manifold)
So much easier to just swap the z6 and probably cheaper as well. is there a reason why you want to swap and still keep it automatic?

I commute 165 miles daily to work. Don't want a manual trans when I'm in traffic. I'm looking for a little extra grunt to get up hills and the extra 25 ponies will do it.

If you want the extra grunt without having to deal with an entire engine swap. I would just do a mini-me swap with the z6 head. It will bump your compression up, you get the better z6 head, and you get VTEC. It will take less than half the time to install, you wire up VTEC, get a P28 and your good to go. And since you want to stay auto, get the p28 for the automatic cars. It will all bolt up and work just fine.

With the added compression will I still use 87 gas? Fuel costs are very important.
Isn't the Z6 bottom end better? What I really need is a Z6 car that was wrecked in the rear so I can steal the cruise control also.

87 will be fine still. And you will get a tad bit more power out of a mini-me because of the higher compression. And if you change your oil regularly and take care of the car. All the d-series bottom ends will last just fine. Plus it does not sound like you're wanting to beat on your car anyways. Swap the head, and drive it...

Get yourself a complete Z6, seriously. Better crank, stronger rods. And when you slap a Z6 head on an old D15 block and bump up the compression you'll most likely start mysteriously burning oil.
