Clutch Diagnosis
I have a 96 EJ8, 160k miles with the original clutch. I really don't know much about clutches so I would really appreciate any help I can get on this issue.
The problem: When I'm starting off from a stop the car shudders fairly violently as the clutch is slipped. This seems to occur only when the motor is cold (first few starts before/after work) and once the car is at a normal operating temperature, it has a fluent slip as it engages. I first noticed it last fall but now it seems to be getting worse. What is this due to (pressure plate, broken motor mounts, etc)? The clutch does not slip under hard acceleration but it does seem to be taking longer to fully engage the plate when starting off, even when its not shaking the whole car.
Is this just a normal sign of the clutch failing? Are there any adjustments I can make to the stock clutch to extend it's life? Thanks in advance for the help!

Re: Clutch Diagnosis (ttk3)
Classic clutch chatter due to a faulty pressure plate, I reckon . Use it too long like this and you'll have major flywheel hot spots

Re: Clutch Diagnosis (ttk3)
sounds like the pressure plate is going out or the runout on pressure plate surface or flywheel surface. if there is any runout on the surface it would cause a shudder but since it goes away when warm I would lean towards pressure plate but either way you deffintly have a clutch problem and it is rec to replace the disc and pressure plate and make sure to get the flywheel either turned or replaced.

Agree, but IMO you have some time before it fails.
Just do your research and find which clutch kit you want and figure how to change it or have it changed.
I think theres a sticky on top of http://www.turbod16.com in the drivetrain forum that has info on clutches. It was done bu my son rota92.

Re: (1992Si)
Thanks all. I was hoping for some kind of adjustment, but I guess 160k is a decent amount of miles for a clutch. Here's hoping for 200k! haha
