Default Civic o2 Sensor

I have a 1999 Civic HX 70,000 miles and recently the engine started bucking/surging and CEL came on and its throwing 2 codes p1162 and p1167, so i believe its the o2 sensor which is like 300 bucks which i dont mind paying and its easy to replace, but before i buy it i just wanted to know if you guys think that is the problem or could it be something else before i spend the dough, has anyone else had this problem, i was thinking about taking it to honda to run the diagnostics but thats a rip off so wanted to try here first.

check for cracks or leaks on the exhaust, at around or before the stated sensor. they used to have problems with the manifolds and or cats crackign and or leaking. however if it is the sensor get a high quality part. go denso and dont cheapen up. is it a stickshift? i have a 98 stickshift and the pre cat sensor for me the lowest price i could find was 398 at carquest with a firestone discount.

My car started doing something similar but im getting a code every few weeks for primary o2 (high voltage). I recently realized that the cat/manifold on my y7 has a small crack from the primary o2 up the manifold. Check for cracks before buying.

also, look online for O2 sensor prices, $300 seems pretty high for one.

actually not only is it a wide band sensor but its actually a 7 wire, but only 5 wires go to the sensor. 2 end in the connectoer itself to get a reference from a fixed cell of oxygen

ok so no cracks on the manifold, took the heat shield and found nothing, i cleared the codes and they came back on 30 minutes later i think its a lazy sensor, so i think im gonna disconnect it and see if it stops bucking cuz it usually does it a couple times a day, and if it doesnt do it im guessing it has to be the 02 sensor for sure than, what do you guys think?

Can destroy the catalyst in the catalytic converter, poor fuel economy, poor performance, wash out cylinders etc.

well the other things the sensor depends on is a good ground, since all of its readings are grounded through the sensors mounting threads, which is grounded to the catalyst/ or manifold depending on the model, which depends on its ground through the bolts. so dont forget to check the grounding of the mounting nut on the sensor to power using a test light if its able to power the light which is a load the ground is good, so indirectly if the ground was iffy or bad, just loosen the sensor and tighten it a couple or remove it and carefully wire wheel only the threads, and fix any bad grounds to the exhast. this is also why some manufacturures install ground cables or straps to the muffler or pipes, because their gaskets may be very inferior at conducting a reliable ground. i would definatly make sure that you get it handled. dont let it go. it affects a lot and is used for other emmission systems self test when you drive the vehicle.
