Civic automatic fluid
what is the best kind of ATF to use in my 99 Civic. I've used Synthetic ATF (Dexron III) in all of my other cars. Also - the Haynes book says there is only a drain plug on the automatic - there isn't any filter??

Re: Civic automatic fluid (BauleyCivic)
Any Dexron III fluid will do. Synthetic is a plus. Honda ATF is overpriced, unless you got connections.
Keep in mind, you only replace about 1/2 of fluid (3 quarts out of 6) every time you change it. So it's better to pick up 9 quarts of cheap ATF, and change it 3 times driving your car for 15-20 min in between.
If you suspect tranny problems, however, you might as well get a flush in a shop that has the equipment to do it right.
