Default Catalytic Converter for Emissions

I'm in the middle of finishing my build, and will be getting a full 3" custom exhaust from the turbo.

I will have the shop cut a section of the pipe where the catalytic converter goes, put v-band flanges on that and match the same length for the catalytic converter with v-band flanges.

This way, for my once a year emissions/inspection I can easily swap the open pipe with the converter.

In previous years, I would randomly throw a code. It was always the same code, but was never consistent. Usually though after a starts the code would pop up. I don't remember the code, but I have a good feeling it was related to my previous high flow catalytic converter.

My question is, to reduce the chance of my cat throwing a CEL, should I just weld another O2 bung to the previous bung that's on the converter, basically not letting the whole O2 sensor not take in as much air and reduce the chance of the O2 sensor/ECU thinking the primary o2 or cat converter isn't doing it's job?

Another idea I had, which I'm not sure would work, is to just have a smaller inlet and outlet on the catalytic converter, basically reducing the amount of air flow in the converter.

Like I said, I've gotten random CEL's due to my converter in previous emissions tests. I'm just trying to find a way to eliminate most of the risk of throwing a CEL. I will only be putting the converter on for one day out of the year, assuming no CEL comes on during the tests.

I think it was either reading too lean or converter efficiency below threshold.

Would either of those two methods help my chances of not throwing a CEL when setting my car up for emissions?

If you do the non fouler mod to that o2 sensor, it should eliminate the CEL's due to you not running a cat.

Did I miss it? What car? What ECU? And no, I'm not going to assume that what's in your sig is the car in question.

Also what does your emission test check? How do they perform it?
