car wont charge.. tried everything
95 coupe EX y7 bottom z6 head
ok so all of a sudden my battery light was on when i started it the other day (car is only started once a week maybe, weekend warrior).
ok so i figure the battery has been drained a few times maybe a cell went bad or something. Got it tested and it tests fine..
OK must be the alternator. I go get a used alternator, come home put it in.. nope still low voltage. I go get my original alternator tested.. passed with flying colors..
hmmm maybe alternator wires are bad, so i replace battery ground, battery to starter, battery to fuse box and fusebox to alternator with 4 awg wire.
Nope still low voltage..
OK MUST be the ELD, i clip the wire to the ELD pin on the alternator plug.
NOPE
what else could this be? car starts at about 11.6ish volts.. will hang in the general area for a bit then slowly start to come down.. it comes down even faster when driving it.
any other ideas? i thought i did them all.
Thermostat ground is tight as is the tranny ground.
im getting so fed up

i have had batteries tested which passed and then still had dead isssues. got em tested again and they failed. everything you have done seems correct so have the alt and batt tested again. maybe the shop you went to had a faulty tester. or the guy didnt know how to test it right (faulty worker). and i'm sure you checked for any blown fuses just for the hell of it right> i think you have a battery fuse too in the fuse box. this is off my head so i could be wrong

when all else fails change it all with brand new parts. how i like to fix things. screw trying to hunt down the problem replace it.
and there are conditions where it'll have enough voltage to pass any test but the batteries amperage is shot and theres nothing you can do about it. you may just have a crap battery in wolfs clothes so to speak. unless your saying you put your friends bat in your car. then id say new alt. or someone is sneaking out turning your lights on and turning em back off.

At this point i would get a friends alternator that he's using everyday or get a brand new one (if its not it you can always return it just tell them you never installed it)

Do you see battery light comes on every time you turn the ignition on?? if you don't see the battery light then system not charging and alternator wouldn't charge... check the alt fuse.

no system... not even a radio... and battery light is always on when the car is on.
i might resort to trying the new alternator

Re: car wont charge.. tried everything
the car will start with a jump or after i charged the battery with a wall charger.. i have a feeling the alternator might be putting out a tiny charge but not enought o sustain while driving..
2morro i will try disconnecting the battery while its running to see if it dies

mine doesnt drain when the cars off... its just it wont recharge.. i can leave it for days without starting it and it will start... just it will wear the battery down and eventually shut off

Re: car wont charge.. tried everything
considering ive driven a car with no alternator belt on it about 5 miles to get it home, im gonna disagree with you statement about not making it down the street... maybe if you battery is 10 years old, but not on a new battery
