Icon2 Car overheats.. new thermostat and radiator

93 honda civic.. I replaced the radiator a couple of months back and it has been fine until about a week ago when it overheated, thought it was just out of coolant so i filled it up and it was fine until last night when the same thing happened and coolant was spraying out of the overflow tank, then i noticed the bottom hose was cool so i thought maybe it was the thermostat... replaced that today and it just overheated, still spraying coolant everywhere on my way home.. only other thing i can think of is something with the fan? Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

If it's a D15B7, the head gasket is probably blown.

Where did you get the thermostat and what brand is it?

Temp sensor. should be right next to the thermostat in the housing. If the radiator and thermostat are fine, that has to be the issue. The fan may not be kicking on, but that usually makes you run warmer than usual, not THAT hot.
Looks like this:

Get rid of the Stant single-stage thermostat you bought from AutoZone, and go buy the correct Nippon Thermostat or Fuji Thompson two-stage thermostat from Honda.

Just went and looked at the box, the brand was Valucraft, and i remember noticing the one i took out looked bigger.. that could be causing it too over heat and spray coolant?

There is a good chance that it is. I can't tell you how many overheating problems I've seen caused by generic thermostats from chain parts stores.

If a Honda thermostat doesn't solve the problem, your head gasket is bad.

your at two possibilities here:something is blocking coolant flow dramatically, a cloged radiator or bad or improperly installed thermostat are the most common (you and already replaced the rad)

or possibly

you have problem with the fan not kicking on, this would over heat at idle but would go back to normal when your at cruising speeds

some things i would suggest doing is bench testing the thermostat (boiling water pot and kitchen thermometer, and checking if its properly installed. maybe try pulling one of your hoses and starting the car, let it drain into a bucket, and clarify good flow

Alright, I will go down to the Honda dealer tomorrow and see if they have them. Hopefully that's all it is. Thanks for the help!

Yea it is fine at idle, the only times it has overheated was on the highway or pretty much anything above 50mph and I am pretty sure I installed the thermostat correctly. I'm going to try the Honda thermostat and see if that fix's it.

if you kept the box for your autozone part then go return it as defective. bring your honda receipt and let them know their part was trash. just like everything else in their store.

Because that's a great way to ensure you'll always pay retail from there on it. Most parts store parts are crap, it is what it is. But if you buy any amount of stuff they'll usually give you a pretty decent discount once you've been coming in for a while. There are times when you will need to go in there again. For the $10 - $15 or so a thermostat costs from a parts store i'd probably just keep my mouth shut and write it off as a loss.
