Default Car overheating due to A/C?

Ok, my bro has a 1997 honda civic DX coupe. He says when he turns on the A/C his temp meter rises. Turns it off and it slowley comes back down. What can be causing this?

you may over-heat because the A/C condenser cooling fan is not operating

When I used to have A/C in my 1993 civic coupe it would do that and it was because the coolant needed changed. It was very brown when i got it changed and never had a problem after that

thanks guys! I'll check these out.

To latinEM1, it sounds like your fan isn't running. When your stoped, there is no air flowing through the radiator, when you move there is. This would cause your radiator to cool a bit I'd imagine. I'd leave my car in idle, pop the hood and rev the engine a bit just to get it to normal temps and check to see if the fan turns on. If not, replace the temp sensor first (don't know tech terms), if that doesn't help...check fuses, etc...Worse case, change the fan. If none of this helps. Then I don't know

bad connection...
the plug might have come loose.
if it stops working again, you could have a short somewhere in the wiring.
