Icon2 Can you modify a d16z6 pump to fit d16y7

I have a d16y7 i have rebuilt and put new main, rod and piston rings cleaned and polished the pistons to a shine and it only had 80K on the motor.. I wanted to know since the d16z6 has the strongest pump i know of would i be able to modify a d16z6 oil pump to fit my d16y7? Only reason i ask is because i know it bolts in NO PROBLEM but i would lose my dipstick and honestly im NOT comfortable with not having a way to check my oil.

SO my question is can i just drill a hole in the oil pump and make a hole for the dipstick or is that not a good idea. I know how crappy the y7/y8 pumps are and i dont wanna do bearings every month

Maybe i should just go to 1 cam only or d-series.org huh? I see people looking but not answering or thowing in their .02 I have ALOT of knowledge on d-series but i want to be sure and see if someone else has drilled the 1 hole for the dipstick i wouldnt see why i shouldnt be able 2 drill it out.. I built this motor from ground up and i dont want oil pressure to be an issue and im not shimming the pump or buying a new pump that ported. Ill port my z6 and drill the hole.. shimming is too much stress and i have a d16y7 crank which is a 1 hole only per bearing so i need the extra pressure/flow. Any idea's before i head off?

I know over at "one cam" there is a sticky for flow improvement modifications to the Y7/Y8 pump. you wouldn't need to make the Z6 work, you could just modify what you've got. they are good instructions and it's pretty easy work if you've got a steady hand.

Iv concidered doin that mod and id say i have an ok steady hand i do PNP lol. But u really think porting the pump will make it flow good enough for a crap crank with only 1 oil hole per bearing? I should just use my Z6 crank but i already put it back together and its in my car running great. im just going for the preventive maintenance kinda thing. I am slapping a vtec head on and i wanna make sure my crap y7 pump wont give out. and i have a z6 with low miles on it so i figured why not?

Thanks for the reply

I'm just really confused on why people spin bearings in these things so often. I have close to 200k on mine, it doesn't burn or leak oil. I change the oil at 5k intervals and it runs great. Is it just user error in running low on oil or driving the crap out of it?

I never get it either but i got the motor used with spun bearing so i replaced everything and i just dont want 1 too spin again. i hurd alot of bad about these motor's mainly oiling issues due to lack of 2 oil holes like most d-series crank shafts these only have 1 per bearing so it dont get very good oil flow. These also have very restrictive oil pump housings unlike the z6 has. I think im just going to port my y7 pump and let it flow better. i wont bump oil psi up cuz i dont want no oil rings/ seals going out due to higher psi but i do want better flow cuz good flow = motor lasts longer..
