Default can a loose timing belt kill power

im not sure if my timing belt is supposed to be that loose. i took off the top cover and noticed that when i rev up the motor it looks like the belt losses tension.i heard i niose coming from my driver side fender and i think its the the belt hitting the lower cover when it looses tension.my car also seems like it has less power when i give it gas. i have a 93 ex coupe with z6 manual any ideas as to what may cause this? do timing belt tensioners give out? is my car in danger of jumping off time?

check your timing. your loose timing belt might have jump a few teeths and cause it to miss fire causing less power. but if timing is right and the belt has not jumped any tooth, and there's a loose belt, check the tensioner. but a loose belt with perfect timing cannot cause to lose power. it might cause it to jump teeth and dangerous and should be fix in the first place but no, i will not.

tensionor is spring loaded. check the spring and see if it has any damage or if its still good. if you have tighten your timing belt back up and it comes loose then most likely the tensionor is bad. get a new one. try tigten your timing first.

so i might be ale to tighten it? how should ut look at 2k rpms? when it spins fast the belt curves under the cam from both sides just under the cam gear.

its dangerous to rev the motor and check out your belt, especially if you think your problem is you have a loose belt. i suggest you open up your tensioner bolt(14mm bolt dead middle of timing belt cover) open it up just a bit, turn the crank pully couterclockwise until you feel the lower belt part(closer one to the front of the car's headlight) pretty tight. if you push on it lightly, it shouldn't move nomore than half an inch. than tighten your tension bolt back up, now you knwo forsure that your belt is tight. if it ever comes lose again after that, then most likey its your tensioner going bad.

note: if you have power steering, ac. you might have to move it to get it out of the way.

loose timing belt can do alot more than make you lose power... make sure you correct this before driving it, as you don't want that thing to break on you
