Default Can I run vtec on a non vtec ecu with a VAFC?

I have a b16, but a non vtec ecu. If I hook up a VAFC, will it activiate vtec even though my ecu wont?

Yes but it wont have the proper fuel curve.

How so?

The V-AFC also allows fuel tuning too.

311 it's always been explained to me that the ECU at least has to have the VTEC to begin with to get it to run correctly.

In this case I cannot honestly give you a 100% accurate statement, but I'm *pretty* sure that in order to get it to run right you'll need a VTEC ECU.

The timing curves and the rev limiter will be wrong regardless of VTEC and fuel tuning even if you could get an LS ECU to work with a V-AFC.

Vtec is not just a mere 12 volts sent to a silenoid. Vtec is a process where the fuel and timing curve changes to correspond to the specs of the high lobes on the cam. But I am sure that you know that. First off, if you use a non vtec ecu, with a fuel controller, like a vafc, you will be modifying ONE fuel curve to accomodate TWO cam conditions. So therefore if you start off with the wrong map, then modifying it to comply with vtec cam specs could make the upper(vtec) rpm run correctly, but the lower(n-vtec)will not be correct. People do it, but it is not like honda meant it to be proportioned.

I would say no. The best I remember when you run a VAFC it kind of pig tails off your ecu so, you still wouldn't have a place on your ecu pinned for the two pins for v tec.

thanks for the info, my dilema is that I have a vtec ecu, but I think its bad, I keep getting a code 22, but everything else checks out. I can get a VAFC for about the same price as a new ecu, so I figured if the VAFC would run vtec, then I would get the added benefit of feul control for the same price as a new ecu. So technically, I do have a vtec ecu, but It is bad. does that change anything in you guy's opinion?

Yes, it will switch on the Vtec solenoid at a selectable rpm setting.

When you install a VAFC, you connect the wire from the VAFC to the solenoid at the motor and tape the wire from the ecu (not used).

You can tune the low cam and high cam fuel maps with the VAFC.

Big problem is the redline. A non Vtec ecu redlines at around 6800-7200 rpms, Vtec ecus redline at 8200-9000 rpms.

Good luck.

what if i have a check engine light? will the vafc still activiate vtec with a code 22 (vtec pressure) cel?
