Hey guys I'm having an issue with my daily driver. Its a 98 civic hatch, The fuel pump is no longer turning on. I just did a full time up with new plugs, wires, fuel filter distributor and fluids. The car kept getting sluggish at random times and then started to die occasionally while driving and now it doesn't work at all. The pump doesn't turn on and I checked the relay and the relay is getting power and I cant jump the pump on between the pins. The only way I can get the pump to turn on is through direct battery power or if I put direct power to the #6 pin on the relay power output and then everything seems to work just fine. Any help is greatly appreciated thank you.

1. Check the fuse under the hood (check the diagram on the lid)
2. Test the relay (see FSM)

Replace one or both if they're not functioning. Fix continuity in wiring if there's a continuity problem.

Relay is good and all fuses are good. After it died fuel pump wouldn't turn on so I wired it directly to the battery to test to make sure it wasn't anything else and the car still won't start with the pump on. Not sure if the crank sensor or ECU could be the problem

I'm confused.

Does your main relay supply power to the fuel pump? Yes or no.

You made it sound like a Main Relay problem but, based on your last post, it's something else now?
Is it cranking but not starting?
Are your distributor wires in the correct order?
Are your injectors receiving a constant 12V with the keys in the ONII position (fuel pump should prime)?
When you try to start the car, are you getting a ground signal from the ECU to the injectors?

The car cranks but does not start, the fuel pump isn't getting any power, when I directly placed power to the pump from the battery the pump came on but car still wouldn't start but it cranked, I haven't been able to check the pulse and power to injectors yet.

You should have power on pins 2, 5 and 7 of the relay with the key on-- though I think one of them may only be live in the start position. If you don't get power to a pin, check the corresponding fuse.

Also when you turn the key on but don't crank, the oil, battery, and check engine lights on the dash should all come on. Then check engine should go out but oil and battery stay on.

1) Go to junkyard
2) Pull correct fuel pump
3) Replace old fuel pump with used one
4) Replace fuel filter (if not previously replaced)
5) Return purchased fuel pump if doesn't solve issue

Fuel pumps usually weaken before complete failure and cause intermittent starting issues.

Pull injectors and spray into bucket to watch spray pattern and timing. Lube injector o-rings with synthetic grease befirew re-inserting.

x2 I have a 97 hatch car wouldn't start I thought it was the fuel pump replaced it with a new one didn't fix the prob. Swapped my ecu to one I got from the junkyard fixed the problem.

although I did have a problem with my alternator prior somehow might of messed with the ecu

Don t the main relay also provide power to the dizzy? Just because you bypass the main relay by putting power straight to the fuel pump doesn't mean the car will run....Sounds as if you have lost ALL power thru the main relay.......
