Block Holes Stripped,for head studs, can this be fixed

Default Block Holes Stripped,for head studs, can this be fixed

i am installing arp head studs and 2 of the holes in the block are stripped,the stud will thread in normal but when u torque them they just spin,when i remove the stud theres metal shavings on it.Can this be fixed?one of my friends said it can be fixed with a tap?or should i bring the block to a machine shop?

take it to a machine shop...i believe they will rethread the holes...just my assumption though..im not 100% sure...

I wouldn't waste my time with that, or trust that at all with head studs. Take the block to a machine shop.

my friend used 2 heli coils on his head studs on his mr2, they lasted for about a week before giving out...

Heli coils are not meant to be used for that sort of thing. I doubt it would last for any considerable amount of time in any case.

if done right, heli coil should hold up. I've done it before with no problems.

I've heard of some people doing this with high power builds....steel threads are stronger than aluminum!

nobody does time sert in my area and i dont have that kinda money to buy the kit

i called the local machine shops all the would of done was heli coils anyway

i know, but he's stubborn, cheap, and not very intelligent. he wouldn't listen to me so i figured i'd let him find out the hard way...

I have a B series timesert kit that I will rent to you...if you pay a full deposit and rental fee.
If you have a 1/2 drill it only takes about 10mins to fix a hole. Its the most fool proof fix for something this serious.

I just ask that you pre-purchase the inserts from a supplier (theyre like $2 each) - Id buy 10...redo the whole block

im gonna do the arp studs with heli coils,it should be safe cause when i torque its not gonna put stress on the block
