hey i need to do the big 3 for my 92 civic
i have a few questions on locations
1 battery ground to chassis ground

is the oem location the best ground for this one?

2 tranny ground and chasis ground

are the oem grounds the best locations as well?

3 alternator power

this one is a little confusing

do i remove the oem wires and wire a new power to the oem fuse box and then from the fuse box to the battery?
or do i not use the oem fuse box and make my own fuse?
is there a ground for the alternator?

Leave your grounds alone. The engineers chose those ground locations for a reason.

I won't ask why you need to, and just answer your questions:
1. OEM is the best location, but grounding on the heavy metal is best (ie - don't ground to thin metal). Try to keep grounds going to the same location as electricity will take the path of least resistance.

2. Yes. Honda knew what they were doing. You can change it but see answer #1.

3. Alternator grounds itself through the mounting to the engine (like the starter). I ran my own inline fuse for the ALT as the power wire went to my power distribution block I now have in the engine to run power to the starter, fuse box and alternator. You can also continue to use the fuse box power supply which has a fuse built into it.


If you are not sure seek help from a professional shop. This is not something to "play around with" as it can burn down your car!

Location of the actual ground doesn't matter as long as it's solid metal. ( all paint/coatings scrapped off) Using the OEM location is often the easiest.

Do not remove the original wire, just piggy back it. You don't need to fuse it.

here are some pictures of all the grounds i only found 3

this is the only battery to chasis ground
seems easy enough to put a bigger guage wire here

looks like its going to the bracket for the power steeering pump
shouldnt be too hard to change this one

now those shouldnt be too hard to do but the alternator power wire is confusing
heres some pictures
now theres a black wire from the positive battery going to the fuse box im not sure what this is? do i need to upgrade this wire?

the white wire is the alternator power wire thats going to the fuse box as well

now i dont think i can fit a terminal in there as u can see in the picture

You know I'll just come right out and say it- WTH are you trying to do, fry parts of your car's electrical system or just set your car on fire?

As everyone else has said you have supplied no details other than the year & make of your car and Honda chose those ground locations for a reason.

It happens-however the OP STILL hasn't answered the basic and obvious question several have asked (incl me) "What are you trying to do and WHY?"

EDIT: Okay so a google search for "the big 3" turned up results of "upgrading" power wires for higher output to a sound system....geez the OP REALLY SHOULD HAVE SAID THIS BEFOREHAND!

My personal advice-get an electrical diagram with ground locations for your car ([cough] read the FAQ [cough]) and take the damn battery OUT of the car if you are messing with the wiring. The questions you are asking indicate you don't have one and the pictures WITH THE BATTERY STILL IN THE CAR while you are apparently messing with wiring lead me to be very concerned for your safety. Electrical current is NOT something to screw with period end of story. In addition to frying expensive parts of your car (starter, alt, dizzy, ecu/pcu, etc) doing what you are attempting to do with power still hooked up and current flowing can result in serious injury or death to you the end user.
