Default bad starter

hey guys, well, my car finally doesn't start at all. before it just didn't start in cold weather, now it doesn't start in cold nor hot weather. so im looking into replacing my starter. ive searched and found out its not that hard to do. ive also looked into hondaautomotiveparts.com for what i need and couldn't actually figure it out. i need to know if it truely is my starter that has gone bad, what the starter part # is, and a step by step instruction on how to replace it? i have the online helms version but my 56gay doesn't let me go thru page by page like dsl'ers so i can't really find it help me out, thanks

EDIT: oh btw, my car is a 95 civic ex

what kind of sounds is your car making? what makes you think its the starter?
you can try smacking the starter with a hammer, that sometimes frees it up if its seizded.

if it is your starter, you wont need anything but a starter.

might not be your starter than. could be somethin really minor, bad relay, bad fuse, bad clutch switch..

your starter should make some noise.
a click at least.

if there's no click sound coming from the dash, then your main relay isn't working. If your battery has juice, try replacing the relay.

If it is your starter, try to find a used one. d-series starters are a dime a dozen used.

Once you have the starter out of the car, any automotive store will check it for free. If the starter is bad get a used one. You can find some on h-t for ~$30. New they cost ~$150.

I don't have a pic, I think it's #24 over here
http://www.hondaautomotivepart...IN%29

In my 97 coupe it's located behind the dash panel that the passenger door meets with. Not sure where it is on the 95.

Since people said the main relay i was wondering how could you check if the relay is bad? Maybe this could help both me and EJ.

I just got a new one to see if it was the issue. If it's not the issue tho, it's a expensive peice of plastic ($40).

okay, so guess how wierd my car is. my car wasn't starting the whole day yesterday and i was bummed out about it. when i wake up early this morning, i get in my car to drive it to my mechanics shop to leave it there for some tests. i was about to roll start my car down the hill but i thought i might give it a try and start it by the key. so i did, and OMG IT STARTED! wtf??? thats so wierd, so im thinking i have a short somewhere. so yea, i left it at the shop and ill let you guys know what they say about it.

btw, i didn't get a OEM starter from honda because they were asking 200 for just the starter and i needed the whole thing (starter & solenoid) so i got it from autozone for 80 bucks with a lifetime warranty. has anyone had any experiences w/ a autozone starter? should i look into getting a used OE starter later since i can't afford a new one from honda? tia
