B16A2 wont start!
Tried firing up my b16 yesterday and it cranks but wont start. It looks like the timing is off even though it took me like 5 times to time it right and i double checked it several times before putting it in the car. The tensioner is new... not sure what is going on.
Questions
1) Maybe I should try a new belt?
2) can some one better explain the advance three teeth thing in case i am getting that wrong?
also i notice the distributor, even when fully bolted down is wobbling. thoughts?
Checked all the following
Fuel pressure
Spark at plugs
Fuel in cylinders
Firing order
wires
hondata program seems ok.

If it looks like the timing is off NOW, it doesn't matter if it was correct BEFORE so either it's timed correctly now or it isn't. How are you verifying or assuming the timing is off?
What advance three teeth thing?
How can the distributor wobble if it's fully bolted down? Post a pic?
Have you verified compression? Ignition timing?

Re: B16A2 wont start!
yes it is off now. I am not sure why but i am thinking that the belt jumped while the car was being turned over. I can get pics but i will need to upload them later once i can get back to the house. Basically if i put the pulley at TDC the up arrows are not up any more.
The distributor is wobbling when i try to turn the engine over a pic wouldn't show it but a video will
No i need to verified compression and ignition timing. i plan on doing this after i get the cam/crankshaft timing thing resolved.

I see. Well, first thing is first. Reset your mechanical timing. I hope it hasn't jumped more than couple teeth.
As for your distributor, I guess I'm not fully understanding how it can wobble if it's fully bolted down meaning flush to the head. Is it fully seated and flush to the head? If not, maybe you have the distributor key way (part that interacts with the camshaft, I don't know the specific name/terminology off the top of my head) 180degrees out. Double check that and make sure it's aligned correctly.
And you're correct, compression test isn't needed at this point but per your original post you said it looked off not it is off. The compression test suggestion was based on the benefit of the doubt that mechanical timing was off. I've seen the 3 teeth thing now that you've posted that, I'm pretty sure you didn't mess that up as long you were only rotating counter clockwise the whole time. As long as you are rotating counter clockwise in a nice smooth motion the belt should hold tension/slack on the crank gear to exhaust cam gear side. When you redo that process again, as you are rotating watch the top side of the belt as passes the top of the two cam gears and make sure it doesn't jump. If you do jerky movements with the ratchet while rotating the crank (tensioner loose) there's a small opportunity where the camshafts and crankshaft can get ahead of one another and with enough of a jerky movement the belt can jump a tooth.

Re: B16A2 wont start!
yeah i though about the distributor thing too so i will look at that later
I also need to verify that the timing marks line up every two rotations. I will look and report back on both.

Correct on the two rotations, crank rotates twice per rotation of the camshaft(gear). At this point if the distributor is 180 degrees off that alone would explain it not firing up. Hoping it's that quick of a fix for you.

Re: B16A2 wont start!
I took the distributor off clocked it and the wobble looks to have gone away. Stupid on my part.
Timing is off. I don't know if the belt jumped or what... maybe the distributor caused it...

Yeah dude that intake timing is off.
Pull the valve cover, stick the largest allen key in the holes to hold the cams at noon. reset the timing belt. The Distributor shouldn't easily go in at 180 out so you may have had to force it in.
Always spin counter clockwise and make sure you can put as much tension on the belt as possible before tightening the tensioner.

Ok I re-timed her and she fired up. She doesn't sound quite right so i am thinking she needs the valves adjusted and definitely tuned!.
The alternator (which is new) isn't charging the battery either so i need to see what is going on with that. Maybe something in my wiring is wrong.
