b16a2 wiring question
i am currently trying to swap a b16a2 into a 96 cx hatch.........
i was wondering if i need a jumper harness obd2-obd1 or can i just run the the one in my car right now. with my stock ecu....btw i have a d16y7 currently.
wat is the best ecu to use for the b16a2?

Re: b16a2 wiring question
the b16a2 is from the 99-00 si if im not mistaken, and the 99-00 si uses obd2b harness....u would have to get a obd2b to obd2a. Never tried it, but when i bought a jumper for an obd1 ECU, they asked me if i had obd2a or obd2b....(obd2a = 96-98). which i suppose is different.

Re: b16a2 wiring question
your car is an obd2a vehicle 96-98 civic.. your motor is a obd2b motor 99-00.. The best ecu to use with the stock engine harness you have is a obd2a ecu.. If you want to get it bar'd then you need to get the 99-00 civic si ecu.. I forget the ecu code you can google it.. If you just want to get it running without a conversion harness then I would get a stock p72 obd2a ecu..
however...
The best method is to get a conversion harness obd2a====>obd1 conversion harness from ebay for like $30
Then get a chipped p28 ecu obd1 or get a p72 obd1 ecu.. any vtec obd1 ecu is good..
Tip: look on the back of your d16y7 ecu.. You see 4 ports? they are A, B, C, D
obd1 ecus have only 3 ports..
obd2a ecus have 4 ports.. it uses A, C, D
obd2b ecus have 4 ports.. it uses A, B, C
those are the difference..

no you cant use the d16y7 ecu.. its just going to start and just turn off.. you can try it if you want but thats whats going to happen.. your going to have to modify your engine harness as well..
now were going to have to look into other things:
Do you want to modify your stock harness to save money?
or do you want to buy an engine harness already set to go?

Re: b16a2 wiring question
also you will have to modify your stock engine harness wire.. you need to add vtec, vtec pressure switch, knock sensor, retro fit IAT plug with a B series IAT plug, and do the IACV conversion from a 3 wire to a 2 wire..
or you can simply find a d16y8 obd2a engine wire harness on ebay or something.. then you dont have to modify anything.. just plug and play but its more expensive..
heres a link if you decide to modify your harness yourself.. its really easy if you take the time to read and learn...
