b16 idle woes
Alright so Ive searched throughout the acrhives and found every possible solution to the idle surge problem, but none have fixed my particular case.
1. cleaned the IACV/EACV, no luck so i bought a new one straight from Honda.
2. cleaned the FITV, tested with another from a D16
3. Adjusted base idle to spec, following Honda guidelines
4. cleaned throttle body plate, idle adjust screw, IACV/EACV ports
5. checked for vaccuum leaks, with propane and brake clean
5. checked and cleaned all ground locations
If there is anything I've missed or could elaborate on please let me know. Any suggestions or hints that could lead me to solve this annoying case would be appreciated.

Re: b16 idle woes (Pure Sol)
I had the same problem on my B16a bought new parts and all, still surged. It could be a TPS problem/needs calibrated, but what worked for me was that I pulled my ecu tried a new one and it did the same thing, but when I put my original ecu back in it went away. Try that or the TPS, hope this helps.

What year B16 and what OBD are you running, reason I ask is today I had a similar problem, what happened was,
Since I have an OBD0 B16 running OBD1 in my EJ, the intake manifold has that thing coming out of the front of it, small line goes to a vac source, big line goes to IACV, OBD1 cars dont have this wierd mechanism, anyway, what I did is perminetly disabled it and tied off the big line coming from the IACV, as for the mechanism, I made a gasket that blocks it off from sucking in air to the IM.
This solved my idle problem.

Re: (Xgen)
i know this sounds dumb but check your cruise control vacumn line and make sure its on the back of the intake manifold, and also go down the line and make sure there are no gashes in it......

Re: (allmotorsi04)
Motor is a 95 B16A3 OBD1 with a P30. Ill look into that cruise control situation, but i don't think i have a vac line for that. Thanks to all that have contributed, more suggestions are welcome. Also anybody have a diag checklist from Alldata or any of the other computer programs?

Re: (Pure Sol)
Try going to a good honda mechanic and getting your TPS sensor callobrated, if no luck after that have them put it on a PGM to check and see if theres any abnormal readings on any of the sensors. Hope this will help

Re: (nello a.)
sorry its been so long, with work and all just a hassle tryin to get on. haven't done anything new to the motor or car since i did the swap. always use 93 octane in it and never run any octane booster or anything of that nature. After pulling most of my hair out trying to diag the problem i went through each vacuum line i could find to check for pinholes with no luck. Interestingly enough if i pull a line off the manifold the car starts to fluctuate idle faster than it does before. As far as the TPS it has never been touched, but I will still check that tip out. Thanks to all those who have helped and i will keep updated.

Re: (Pure Sol)
my car did this as well on my B16a, turned out my ecu had been chipped wrong, and was flashing a code saying that the automatic tranny was being goofy, i had it rechipped, and it idled fine

Re: (Pure Sol)
i have the same problem in my 92 LX...b16a3...virgin p30 surged like a mother ****** then i switched to an JDM b16 throttle body that uses the remotely mounted MAP and now it idles fine but i still throw and IACV code and MAP code and now a VTEC pressure switch code (wtf? never had this code before and VTEC works perfectly) but now my car stalls out while coming to a stop...i've adjusted my idle and tried to clean my IACV but maybe i just dont know how? how did you clean yours out? i used throttle body cleaner and then blew it out with air and let it dry. hopefully someone can pry themselves away from the "how low can i possibly make my civic" threads and "can i put a d-series tranny on a b18?" threads to help us!
