B16 BLOCK with a B20 HEAD, will it work?
Just like the title says b16 block with a b20 head. Anyone ever done this? I know alot of u guys probably have a b16 block or a non vtec head sitting around collecting dust. I have an idea of how to get it to work but I just want other people insight and to see if there is anyone out there that tried it. I know it's probably going to be the worst b series swap in terms as of power with no low end and no high end power probably like a bolt on d-series. But it could be a good swap for a daily if you got the parts laying around.

it will work, but will not be a power house. pretty bunch a b-series "ZC d-series" setup. Oil passage maybe something to think about.

It can be done, it just wont make power and you need to figure out how to make it fit correctly.
And 1997eksedan, nobody is going to trade a vtec head for a non-vtec head. I see them on craigslist for like $50. VTEC heads are like 250-400

Did you ever do this? I am also curious on how this would work as I have the same parts laying arround... currently running a b20z2 in my ek sedan have a spare b20 head and a b16 block ...wondering if I could slap it together and sell as a decent full swap

Re: B16 BLOCK with a B20 HEAD, will it work?
I for one would prefer the B20 over a non-VTEC B16 frankenstein build. There's a reason there's little-to-no info on it. Who would choose a neutered non-VTEC 1.6L over a 2.0L and call it a "decent swap"? Nobody, that's who.

Re: B16 BLOCK with a B20 HEAD, will it work?
I compleetly agree ... I was just looking into the ability to put the head onto the b16 block just to get rid of it as a whole swap.... as was said a few comments up... no one wants a non vtec head so figured I could make an ok swap out of what I had but if it's not even worth it I'll find someone with a good b20b or z2 and trade em the b16 block so I have a back up motor

Re: B16 BLOCK with a B20 HEAD, will it work?
There are two major issues that can think of right off the top of my head: 1) You would have to block off the VTEC oil passage in the block so that oil wouldn't spray out everywhere when you crank it up. 2) Since the cam gears are farther apart on the non-vtec head than those of the B16A head, you would need a longer timing belt. The trouble is that the B16A block is SHORTER than the LS/CRV blocks, so you couldn't use a standard LS timing belt. The B16A belt "may" work if you replaced the VTEC water pump with the smaller wheeled non-vtec water pump... but you may still have to find an alternative belt.
My opinion: It isn't worth the trouble.
