Default Automatic transmission won't shift out of park?

I recently changed the engine/tranny in my automatic EG. I swapped it from a D15B7 to a VTEC-E motor for gas mileage.

When I put the new tranny in, the CEL came on (didn't check code, was too tired to care for now). The other thing, the tranny would not shift out of park. I used the key to put it in neutral from the shift lock, and it started up and would shift into any gear, even park, but once i release the button that was it, it would not unlock.

What could be my problem? The solenoids on the tranny had loose pins and I just used them. Would that cause the tranny to not want to shift out of park but shift every other gear?

I think there is a sensor that requires the brake to be pushed down or it won't let it out of park. That sensor is most likely bad. I think there is a way to bypass it, but I'll leave that to the experts.

Yeah, either the brake switch or check the fuses. It was the fuses for me.

Brake switch works fine. I've taken an auto apart a long time ago. But I don't remember how that brake switch is controlled within the system, or if there is electronics in the system.

Ok. So I took the auto shifter apart and it's the solenoid that isnt working.

Number 7 in this diagram.

It simply doesn't pull back the lock mechanism when the brake is applied/ignition on. What could cause this, anything in the engine bay?

Bump.

I figured out that the solenoid is getting the 12 volts from ignition, but I'm assuming the other wire for the actuator is either a ground, or another 12 volt signal, brake switch.

Does anyone know for sure? Tonight I'm printing off a wiring diagram but having a second opinion would really make it easy. Could a brake switch that turns on the brake lights not give it's signal for the automatic release?

Vtec -e, as inm 95 VX hatch engine. And no, it's not a CVT it's an automatic 4 speed, long geared. Yes, I did swap the ecu but the ecu was an automatic. As mentioned, the car when started in neutral drive mint, every gear, even pulls decent and has vtec engaging. I cleared all the CEL (it was a dead O2 sensor).

My problem is strickly under dash for sure. Even when you look into the honda shop manual is has no info about that solenoid being related to anything in the dash.

Personally, I think the kid who I did the swap for is trying to expletive me for more work included in the swap. My own fault for not checking it first.
