Default Attempted theft, key stuck in my ignition.

Well, my car got broken into (1997 Honda Civic HX), and the thief stole my radio. Also, they tried to steal my car too because there's now a broken key stuck in my ignition. I tried to wiggle it out with a paper clip but no luck. I don't have the proper tools to do it but I was wondering if you guys had any experience with this? If I take out the tamper proof torx screw will I be able to remove the cylinder?

I know theives suck, but please keep the "sorry to hear that, theives suck" replies to a minimum, I want some constructive replies, thanks a lot Honda-Tech

Here's a pic:

Any suggestions on any tools I can use to pick it out? Are there such things as pliers that a REALLY small (like paperclip size) that I can buy?

I figured I ask here before I went to my local hardware store to look around.

My last resort is a locksmith, but I really don't want to fork out the cash if I don't have to.

just remove the entire ignition switch and take it to a lock smith, they can get it out in like 15 seconds

hmm i tried that with a paperclip but the paperclip was too flimsy to hold it. also, the key is twisted so it won't just come straight out.

i need a tool that can grab it, i think i'm just gonna go to OSH to see if htey have any small *** pliers that I can use, or maybe even snap ring pliers if i have to. thanks guys

that is all I could really think of as well without having to go to a lock smith, good luck with that.

im pretty sure there are smaller needlenoses smaller than standard needlenose pliers. how about the needlenoses that hook at the end? the tips are pretty small, and theres leverage for you to get it out

first off you can simple take the entire igniton off the car. it is locked in with snap bolts if you look at the top of your steering column you can see the two bolts..

if all the wiring on the actual ignition is intacted and nothing is cut and its just the key stuck in there. you an remove the inner key cylinder and then take the broken key out and then stick the cylinder back in

if you look at the top of the ignition housing you will see a very small silver or black circle , if you push that all the way in you can remove the inner parts of the ignition.

it works the same way as a dent puller in your ignition would, just without the damage.

if your confused about the pin let me know and ill find you the photo of the location.

same **** just happened to me, but i was in philly 2 hours from home so i broke the whole igtion system off with a hammer and hot wired it.

anyway, you can remove the lock cylinder easy. see the special torx bit in your picture with the thing in the center?

you have to get teh torx bit and that ish will come out, and you can get a new one, or bring it wherever.

bah nevermind what i said, your rear part of your ignition looks like its broken off.. so just replace the ignition itself and then put the old inner cylinder in the new ignition house this way you can use the same key.

try some superglue and use the back side of an old drillbit.

Thanks for the help guys. Taking out that Torx bolt did nothing. Also, to take off the entire ignition assembly, you need to take off those two bolts on top of the steering column but they have no heads, so how would you do it?

Anyway, I managed to fish out the key with 2 paper clips. Just took some time and A LOT of patience. Took me about 15 minutes. Thanks for the help guys

use a dremel to cut the metal flange where to two snap bolts are, then go buy a new ignition assembly, then once the old one is off the steering column look for that small pin hole on the top of the ignition, then it will release the inner key cylinder so you can use your same key.
