Default Applying liquid gasket to bolt threads rear main seal?

I installed some new seals on a d16z6 motor and ready to install the motor in my civic hb. I have overlooked an important step when installing the rear main seal housing on the motor. According to the helms manual I should have applied liquid gasket to the rear main seal housing bolts. Will most certainly leak without the liquid gasket applied to the threads. Any advice would be appreciated.

Being you haven't installed the motor, I would back track to the point of being able to pull those bolts and gasket them up and reassemble.

By the looks it's mainly just timing belt work to get to and put back together.

The motor isn't installed. So....this seems like an easy fix.

Use Hondabond, for God's sake.

Everybodies on the cheap cheap, if he can't afford hondabond he probably didn't use the oem seal.

OP just remove the bolts and apply it since the motor is still out. If you already dropped the motor in then you'll either have to pull the motor or pull the tranny to get to it.

I did use hondabond and new OEM rear main seal. Do I just unbolt and add the hondabond to the threads? Wouldnt I have to remove the rear main seal housing and reseal the housing again with new hondabond?

Wait. What did you hondabond? You can't just remove the bolts and hondabond them.

You're not trying to seal the threads. Applying it to the threads transfers gasket material to the gap between the hole and the bolt.

You're trying to seal the flange of the housing AND the bolt holes.

You most likely put too much gasket material on there anyway (common). In which case, it would have squished itself into the bolt holes. You can take that chance if you're confident.

Otherwise, take it apart. Clean the surfaces back down to bare metal. Then re-apply the honda bond to the correct places.

Hopefully you didn't remove that housing just to put in a rear main seal.....

For my y7 it was cheaper to buy the housing with seal then just the seal alone.

The image does state to apply it to the bolt thread but from what I've seen the don't apply a lot, just a tad bit. I guess what they are trying to do is the same thonda locktite does.

I used hondabond between the rear main seal housing and the block.

I see that makes sense. Just to be safe I probably will apply enough hondabond throughout the bolt to ensure the gap is filled. I am afraid if I just apply to the threads, there may not be enough material squeezed to level of where the block and housing meet.

Not really sure if I put enough, so I will remove the existing hondabond from the block/housing and reapply the hondabond between the housing/block and apply the hondabond to the bolts.

I wanted to reseal the rear main seal housing.

Thank you, your input was very informative.

When you say seal, are you referring to the rear main oil seal? When you bought the housing it came with the rear main oil seal?
