Any Direct optional Honda Steering wheel swaps on 99-00 SI's?
I always felt that stock wheel was a little, big. For a leather wrapped wheel, it sure feels kind of hard.
I was told its illegal to remove the wheel for XXX wheel that has no airbag, that you cannot remove a safety point.
That being said, do more modern Honda steering wheels bolt on without much issue? If there are issues what would I run into? What could I do to get them to mount properly?
I heard wheels like a S2000 wheels swap without any modification, or at least very little modification. I assume wheels like a ITR would also swap into it.
Is there a place I can look up these kind of wheels? How much they run?

i don't know all the wheels that fit, s2000, rsx, ep3, certain accords.
the eg, integra wheels don't fit the splines are different.
in my 96 I have a accord type r same as civic type r

Any diagrams on how to do the swap or was it literally just take the old wheel out, put new wheel in? Does the wiring harness need to be changed or does it use the same wiring harness.?

Before you do this, UNPLUG YOUR BATTERY and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. you don't want an air bag going off in your face while you do this.
To get the steering wheel off, you have to find the two plastic covers (one on each side) and remove them. They are just held in by clips. you can remove with a flat head screw driver. Under the covers you'll see two small screws. see the pictures below. the screws aren't in obviously but that's where they'll be. Take both screws out.
Once both screws are out, pull out on the airbag CAREFULLY.. there are a few connections that need to be unplugged. the yellow is your airbag, and the others are for your horns and cruise control. After that, the air bag is out.
when you pull the air bag, you'll see a 19mm nut right where my finger is in the middle of the steering wheel. This bolt isn't going to want to let go easily so I highly suggest using a breaker bar and making sure the steering wheel is locked in position. or have someone hang on to the steering wheel while you break it loose. once that's out you can pull the steering wheel off.
do that in the reverse order for install of the new/or original steering wheel.
Are you wanting to have working cruise control on the swapped steering wheel?

Just for reference:
EK steering wheel: 380mm
ITR/GS-R steering wheel: 380mm
"Type-R" steering wheel: 368mm
S2000 steering wheel: 360mm
S2K wheel is only ~%5 smaller than the EK.
Unless you can find it for $300 or less, may not be worth the time / money.

But honestly in Houston, where you can't drive straight for 50 feet without some asshat jumping in front of you, I'm not sure I could even use cruise control if I tried.
But Hey if I move out of this shithole someday. Sooner or later.

btw thanks for the great info.!
Yeah I'm keeping my eyes out for a good deal on a AP1 steering wheel. Maybe even a ITR wheel.
Also waiting for this new job to start soon. Eventually, someday.

I suppose if its not too much of a hassle, its not a big deal as I don't use it often much anymore. I did back in Michigan when commuting on the highway was clear, clean, and I could be coasting for the next 50 miles. But honestly in Houston, where you can't drive straight for 50 feet without some asshat jumping in front of you, I'm not sure I could even use cruise control if I tried. but yes I know exactly what you mean, I live in Ohio and am in Houston (Montgomery more specifically) a few times a year and I feel your pain lol...
An ITR or CTR steering wheel would be awesome as well. either way, let me know if you need a DIY put together for the cruise if you end up getting an AP1!
Good luck with the job

It doesn't have to be just an AP1 wheel. Any 00-05 S2000 wheel will be plug and play on an EM1 (I have an 05 on mine). 06+ switched to a 2 stage airbag so that's why they're not compatible. Again, only minor rewiring of the CC controls is needed. I remember someone posted a diagram on how to wire it up years ago but if you Google it you should be able to find it.
