alternator?
I have a 2001 civic and the alternator make a whining noise, someone said something about a bearing that could be replaced instead of the enitre alternator, is this true and if so howmuch is the bearing?

2001 should = warranty. Let the dealer take the hit 
. It could possibly be your belt, and some good belt dressing should do the trick. Never use wd-40 on belts.
