So I'm helping a friend with his car, he blew up his motor (barfed #2 rod) so I had a obd0 b16 block and assembled it for him. Now I know this block doesn't have a crank sensor by the pulley so I figured I'd get a code for this. The code I am getting is a p1382 cyp sensor. It has a crappy idle and no vtec. Would the crank sensor cause it to throw a cyp code? What should I check for from here? Thanks in advance

Yes the CKF cause non VTEC and CEL.

The easiest way is to use a oil pump from a 96-01 B series engine with the original CKF plugged.

Ya I was gonna try that. But it's weird to me it's not even throwing the code for that but it is throwing a different code.

Ok so I've tried,

2 distributors that are guaranteed working both I pulled off running cars. (P1382) still there.

I've tried the hack. Code still there.

And checked all the wiring from distributor to ecu.

Why not swap over the the oil pump, than you'd get the cyp sensor installed.

The cyp sensor isn't on the oil pump, it's in the distributor

Car is obd2b, is the engine harness obd2b, how about the ecu? Is the distributor obd2b? Is the crank sensor hooked up at all?

The crank sensor has nothing to do with a CYP code. The ECU doesn't care what motor is in there...and there isn't an "OBD2B" USDM B16 distributor. All OBD2 B series VTEC distributors will work.

OP...did you guys swap distributors for some reason? If you wired in an older distributor, you may have gotten the blue and DARK blue wires mixed. Happened to me (twice lol).

I didn't rewrite the distributor, but who knows, may have been done by previous owner I will double check that. And there is no crank sensor Down by the oil pump it's a older b16 block which did not come with it, next I'm gonna try and do a jumper and a p30 ecu see what happens. I'm sure I'll end up throwing code 9 but worth a shot. Thanks for the input fellas.

Did it have an issue before the rebuild? If not then check both sides of the distributor connector for continuity to ensure a wire isn't making a bad or non connection. Sounds like a wiring issue if the only thing that was replaced was the engine although you didn't list the year/make/model. Your title says 99 Civic Si engine but is that the model of the car or is the engine out of the 99 Civic Si?

That's the thing, I am not sure if it did this prior, I beleive it did but the previous owner never checked the engine light. It was on though so I'm assuming it was the same code. The block is a older b16 obd1 head is obd2 along with everything else obd2.

If you're using everything from the previous obd2 engine was this code present before?

Have you reset the ECU to see whether the code returns? What ECU?

It has a stock p2t ecu. I've tried disconnecting the battery, the ecu, and pulling the ecu fuse as well. As for the distributor wiring, I'll be there tomorow and double check the pin out I'm pretty sure it's correct, I'm also gonna try an obd1 ecu with jumper see if it's the same.

So was it or was it not an obd2 distributor? If not than the first thing you should've done was double check the wiring.

Yes it's a obd2 distributor, I have no clue if at one point it was ever rewired. There was cel on prior to the motor blowing but the owner never had it checked, I guess he assumed it was the crank sensor,

Obviously, you need to check whether the two sensor wires are properly pinned to the ECU and whether they have a short or open.
