Default 98 Y8 Civic D16B to D15B swap

I have a 98 civic ex 5sp (sohc Vtec D16B Y8) that needs an engine. I am considering swapping it with a 98 D15B Y8 Vtec-E. From what I understand the swap should be rather simplistic (using the existing intake and pwr steering pump). Could someone tell me if the D16B ECU and wiring harness is compatible with the D15B? Do I need the original D15B ECU? Will I need to rewire anything on the D16B harness to work with the D15B? Please also let me know if there is anything else I should be aware of.

1. The stock motor is a d16y8...1.6 sohc vtec
2. I'm not sure what motor you're referring to when you say "d15b Y8 vtec-e". D15b is a jdm sohc vtec 1.5 ltr, d16y8 has already been explained, a 1998 vtec-e motor is the d16y5.

Clarify what you want based on that information and we can help you with wiring and ecu's from there.

I know its jdm. I was actually told it would work on 96-98, not specifically that it was a 98. They did not specify if it was Y5 or Y8, just that it was a direct replacement for my Y8. That’s all the information I have on the engine. What else should I ask them to make sure it will work?

I’m interested in doing the swap because it is a much better deal, considering price and mileage, than any deal I can find on a used D16Y8. Any advice on if the swap would be worth the trouble or suggestion on where I could find the right engine would be appreciated.

Aaahh it's probably a 96-00 jdm d15b with 3 stage vtec. Is the car automatic?
